This should have happened years ago, and I'm pretty sure Lina wanted to do this back then. My guess is, the current administration decided to only green light her now, since they're leaving and it's an obvious way to make the next guys look bad.

Nothing will happen. Microsoft is closely allied with the US government. Surely they will be cozy up to the new government as well.
Bruh Microsoft owns the 2 democratic senators from the "great" state of washington and also have a look at the donor list - google and microsoft are at the top of democratic donor list for corpos. Kackala's party has long been on its knees for Bill Gates

I doubt they will do anything to MS. In fact, breaking up Alphabet benefits them.
If any administration had been serious about it in the last 20 years, they should have stopped Microsoft first.
The problem with microsoft is that they have 90% of the OS market on PC's. The best time neuter them was in the 90s or early 2000's , I think its too late now.
We have to hope now that open AI flops and someone else becomes the market leader in AI, I shudder to think if microsoft dominates AI like they do with OS and cloud. The cancer from Redmond, Washington is very hard to get rid off
