Not sure what all the fuss was about from the reveal.

Obviously the RRP for the Pro without a disc drive is 700 pounds.

Doesn’t mean we don’t we see bundles without a drive.

Even at that price from select retailers.

This is not official Sony, it’s a store bundle right?

Wonder where they’re getting the drives from. None this side of the pond - it’s like I’m living a Soviet Russia nightmare.

Well, they better start making more because I definitely need one too.

20€ discount on PS5 Pro + disc means they're selling the bundle for 900€ or $985 at current rates.
Yeah, it's still not going to sell at that price in Spain.

IIRC Spain and Portugal were the European countries with the highest playstation adoption per capita and almost no one buys discless consoles, but at 900€ the PS5 Pro is DOA here.

Nice idea... But that does then again depend on the price. If they do sell it in my country and it's cheaper than buying a PS5 Pro + a Blu-Ray disc drive then so will I cancel my current pre-order and get this instead... But if it's the same price or cheaper to get a PS5 Pro and then a Blu-Ray disc drive so will I wait for the Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Christmas, January 2025 etc. sales and then get a Blu-Ray disc drive and of course keep my current PS5 Pro pre-order.

I swear if next gen is pure digital I will be scratching hard on justifying staying on console.

Been dicking around remote playing from pc to areas around the house, and apart from the typical pc hassles of getting up and running, once in game it’s smooth sailing. There is latency and playing mp is out, but for sp it’s a treat everything maxed out 4k 60. But the main advantage is - all systems past and present running at their best - including emulation.

🤔

The fact that it’s not available anywhere signals a digital future hard to me. Little care, little production.

In the US, it's currently available via PS Direct and all major retailers... I'm sure countries will get new stock in the coming weeks.

This is such a weird take. I'm speechless.

I bet it's just a store bundle made by them: if you buy them both the console and the drive you get 20€ off discount.

This is correct. Perhaps Sony would sell a PS5 Pro SKU with a disc drive once the price comes down, but I think they may also simply be testing whether people are willing to buy the disc drive separately and at what rate.

Not including the drive on the PS6 and selling it separately could drive significant revenue and operating income while keeping the sticker price on the console lower.

What's weird about it?

You're so upset by a digital console that you would jump to a digital PC, only to then stream said games with an extremely increased latency over playing on console.. and you think the real benefit here is games you probably don't even play often or could run off a raspberry pi for less than 100 dollars...

And let's remind ourselves that we got here because of digital...

Don't think Breath of the Wild would run very well on Raspberry pi.

Also yeah, physical is part of the attraction for me together with exclusives. Neither of which are looking likely in the not too distant future.

What's your excuse?

I don't care about exclusivity as someone not being able to play a game without owning my plastic box doesn't enrich my experience.

I also play all my games digitally and will look forward to the possibility of carrying over these games into future generations. This coming from someone who buys 4K blurays because they're generally superior quality and I enjoy owning movies rather than having to subscribe to a streaming service to rely on it being there.

So you collect physical media for movies, but find it weird to do so for consoles….🤪

Weird cause PC is almost totally digital. Even the disc games were single use last time I checked if they even exist now.

You are literally jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire.

Physical will remain an option on PlayStation even in the next generation.

That’s why they created the detachable disc drive.

It wasn’t cheap to create and not for half a generation either.

Yeah, for a multitude of reasons, similar to why I don't generally buy tv series on 4K bluray unless they're a miniseries or something.

Jumping between games and tv shows is tedious on individual discs. TV shows rarely have better quality on disc than streaming and games don't have any improved quality on disc over digital.

There will come a time where the next system doesn't use discs at all but may still honor digital downloads. I don't want to be on the wrong side of that. It would be different if all physical games worked on all physical drives, but they're console-specific.

You can get physical games cheaper than digital, but I see that as the cost to potentially being able to play these games in the future and more conveniently. I don't have to store games that are hardly utilized or potentially transport them.

There aren't enough benefits to physical games to make such a fuss over them.

Zero chance this disc drive works on the PS6, but maybe that's not what you meant.

Sony could easily have used a USB-C disc drive but I think they chose this form factor to force you to buy a drive every generation.
