My God Phill Spencer said they aren't increasing Xbox price. In fact; they will be give one console for each Game Pass suscribtion.
MS actually never said that they are not going to increase the price. They released a nothing burger statement and their pet media created headlines to favor them.

Exhibit A.

https://www.pcgamer.com/microsoft-wont-raise-xbox-prices-after-playstation-5-price-hike/

The headline says Microsoft won't raise Xbox prices.

Now, here is the actual quote from Microsoft that never even said that:

“We are constantly evaluating our business to offer our fans great gaming options. Our Xbox Series S suggested retail price remains at $299 (£250, €300) the Xbox Series X is $499 (£450, €500)," Microsoft said in a statement to Windows Central.

This is a nothingburger statement:
  • They stated they are constantly evaluating.
  • They literally just stated the current MSRP.
That's it.

They never promised that they won't raise the price as the headline said. Since they are "constantly evaluating", they may decide to raise the price tomorrow, next month, or next year, who knows.

They might have well promised at this point. Everyone has made such a big a deal about them not raising prices that it would be an epic fail for them to eventually do it now and cost them so much good pr.

In the end i dont think nintendo and microsoft are gonna take this economic downpour on the chin, they are just gonna be smarter about it. They have to be now. Biggest advantage microsoft has is it doesn’t report profit, so they could take the hit and still not feel the affects but it would be a big talking point to see that ever happen on record.

"price remains".
Yes, because they haven't changed it yet, so the price remains the same. Nothing in this confirms that they won't change it in the future.

Having said that, I don't think they will increase the price because of multiple reasons. But just pointing out the odd headlines and assumptions by these writers.

After that evaluation they decided no to increase prices.

Is this PR Win worth it? Sales numbers are going to decided that.
Yeah but that might change down the line of they down want to continue eating losses.

MS doesn't give sales numbers though 😁

But I agree, I expect Sony to continue to sell everything they produce for a while yet, and for Xbox's to continue to be available.

$80 games on PS5 and everything coming to PC either much sooner or day and date. It's too expensive not to.

and your reaction....

They could also lower their prices as well. Probably best to not be locked in to a stance based on what the competition is doing. MS has shown they have their own plan and it certainly is not dictated by what Sony is doing.

If we're honest... the "things to come" are Sony becoming a 3rd party publisher & the PS5 being the last PlayStation console.
Sony can't compete anymore more.
They saw that Nintendo is dominating with their hybrid console and their IP power.
And they saw how Microsoft acquired 2 publishers. And it will be 3 soon. Phil Spencer already mentioned that he wants to acquire more, especially in Japan.
Minecraft and Call of Duty alone are destroying whatever Sony can put out. It's no contest anymore

This is the reason why Sony is creating Live-Service games now. To sell microtransactions. On PS5, PC, Mobile, Switch and Xbox. Just look at MLB The Show or Destiny for example.

The signs were on the wall:

10€ for cross-gen upgrades.
80€ for games.
80€ for remakes of PS4 remasters.
550€ for a PS5 console.

Sony can't compete anymore. Jim Ryan knows it. This is the reason why they are milking the PS community now before the "We are going 3rd party" announcemment in a few years.
Do yourself a favour and just sell your PS5 if you even have one. Get a PC, Xbox or Switch instead. The future of the videogame industry.

I agree. As I said, I don't think MS will increase Xbox price (I can think of multiple reasons why). But as I said earlier, I am just pointing out the incorrect headlines that are reaching and making false assessments "MS won't increase Xbox price" when MS never said anything like that in their actual quote.
