The poster I responded to was saying 2023 is supposed to be the peak year when the third full year is rarely a consoles peak year.
Like I said on Era, UK peak years for PS4 and Xbox One were 2014.
For UK and Europe, the only reason 2023 is so high for PS5 is because 2022 was abnormally low due to shortages. So low, they went down -33% from 2021.
Looking at last gen some more, France peak year for PS4/XB1 was 2014 as well. Germany was 2017 for both. Spain was 2015 for PS4, and XB1 sold the same between 2016 and 2018. Italy saw the same peak sales in both 2016 and 2018 for PS4, and XB1 peaked in 2019. Benelux and Northern Europe peaked in 2015. Combined Europe peak was 2015 for both PS4 and XB1.
Trying to claim 2023 is the "natural" peak or is what's supposed to be peak is a warped perspective of how sales were impacted over the past 3 years.
I don't think I said it matching last year was good.
Like if in the US also only "matches" what was sold last year this Black Friday/November that'd be disastrous lol.
