I don't think it needs to be F2P. I think it can have long term success once the initial rush is over with a permanent price drop to $20, there are a LOT of people who will pick it up on impulse at that price. Also let's not kid ourselves, Ghost of Tsushima already got on the PS studios banner with 9m sales. Helldivers is going to be at least that successful.

I don't think getting on the "banner" is what we're talking about here.

Games like Blood and Truth and Concrete Genie got on the banner.

For a full priced original IP to sell so many units on PS4/PS5 alone was significant. The reality is Ghost of Tsushima is still selling and has yet to release on PC.

With the release of a movie, that will propel the franchise further.

Helldivers will definitely go F2P eventually. I'm not saying it'll go from 40 to F2P. Everything obviously depends on engagement and continued sales. It'll probably go from 40 to 30 to 20 to Free on Ps+ for a month back to 20 to 10 to 5 to F2P. Largely depending on what I mentioned before engagement and sales. The reality is you have to maintain interest at high levels and you need players for that. At some point you'll hit the peak of people who are willing to pay 40 for the game.

Not sure how I would feel about this going F2P. I seem to prefer it have a premium to play. I never associate F2P with quality. This game deserves premium sales. Just my 2 cents.

Game is aces.

I'd rather them work on Helldivers 3 than go f2p in 5 years.

Put out story driven, single player expansions that feature higher assets and you got yourself a winning formula.

@Gamernyc78 I think legally they would have to dump their current engine. GG's Decima engine would be perfect for Helldivers sequels, but I'd rather them go the No Man's Sky route (if that's financially viable).

If Johan wants his childhood dream to come true he has to give up his independence and sell his studio to Godny.
On average, Sony seems to be good with not stepping on the toes of their studios heads (until said heads fuck up). Sony's resources (and money) might make it worth it to Johan. Lord knows being indie must be a very scary thing. I think how Sony deals with Housemarque should be a good sign of how Arrowhead would be treated by Sony.

I think they should 100% do the EXACT same thing Hello Games has done with No Man's Sky. Keep pushing meaningful updates every 6-12 months. But keep the price at $40. With some drops to $20 when you don't have anything new to drop. And then hike the price back up to $40 when a massive update comes out.

We know this works and is a good strategy.

Helldivers will be the BIGGEST Sony IP by 2028. I honestly expect this game to blow past 25 million units. Everyone that touches this game gets that democracy bug. This IP is also ripe for TV/Movies, cross media.

It’s the definition of a hit
