Thats exactly what I am telling people. Sony already makes huge money from 3rd party GaaS. Their AAA games already profitable in their 1st week of release. Sony has to spend more on AAA and keep them exclusive to attract people to their echo system and keep making even more money out of 3rd party.

Who really cares? The graph is being used to show that Sony's revenue is super high while their profits are still super low. That's still the case. Is the graph 100% accurate? No. I don't really want to make one by myself. I saw Derek's tweets. I'm on Twitter too.

I think GAAS runs counter to the premise of Sony, which is to deliver quality products at premium prices
GAAS is deliver shitty quality product and nickel and dime you for a less shitty experience.

If they want to make multiplayer games fine, but the kind of games that require upkeep would take far more staff than they have. A 150-200 member project team can't sustain a gaas game, let alone at the quality of game that Sony produces. They'd need thousands of devs per game devoted only to pushing out content.

What happens when folks get tired of sad dads walking and talking in third person to the sound of Santaolalla's charango? These companies operate 5 years to a decade in advance and are able to notice market trends way before us, since they have lots of connections and information.

Look at what happened to MS once Halo and Gears weren't as popular anymore on the 8th generation: It took them a generation and a half and billions in M&A to start losing the Halo/Gears/Forza moniker. And Forza got a second wind thanks to the Horizon spinoff, that outgrew the Motorsport series on the 8th generation.

From the 15 or so GaaS projects Sony has, some will get cancelled, others will release and bomb, others will be mid and maybe one or 2 will be a sucess. But thats more than enough for them.

I agree with Sony 1st party not being prestige at first. Gran Turismo was really the only good 1st party until God of War in 2005. PS3 gen is when 1st party started releasing hit after hit.

Businesses have to venture into different avenues. Apple didn’t stay just making computers, Disney didn’t just stay making cartoon movies, McDonalds didn’t stay just making burgers and fries. Sony didn’t just stay making walkmans, radios, and tv’s. As a business you venture out and take risks, to potentially make more money.
