I really wish Sony got Embark studios (The Finals)

Between ‘The Finals’ and “Arc Raiders” i feel like they are truly bringing something unique and fresh to multiplayer. This is the first time i saw multiplayer games that actively make me want to go out and spend money on it. I hate the overly cartoony fortnite stuff and i hate the bog-standard military shooters, these games look like they are really bringing something new to the table.

This is what sony should be trying to create with their studios imo

Really praying that Deviation, Haven, GG, and firewalks games look as unique and fun as this and they don’t just all try and make the next CoD or BF.

The Finals: Mirror Edge x battlefield.

Arc Raiders: Battlefront x Horizon.

Nice trailers but nothing more.

Is Embark already owned by a company? If not, Sony could always acquire them at some point down the line.

They are a subsidiary of Nexon, a South Korean company

Not gonna lie, even though Deviation has a lot of talent (more than before even) the fact that blundell left concerns me a bit. He was the one saying he wanted to do something really different and he wanted the game to be easily recognizable in a line up.

Really hoping its because of business and not creative differences

These are well made trailers (great song choice for ArcRaiders) and seems that their games have great visuals.

I see a small idea in ArcRiders (Monster Hunter-like giant enemies but this time the multiplayer game is a shooter) and another one in the Finals (to create your own 'platforms' using that goo).

But other than that I don't see anything special that would help them compete against or improve big multiplayer shooter games.

I think Sony (Bungie, Deviation, Firewalk, TLOU MP...) should add more ideas and push the genre beyond this. From what I know, something they want to do is to -I don't know how exactly but I can imagine a handful ways to do it- to integrate Sony's narrative focus (and would be like to introduce there ND/SSM-like spectacular action set pieces) and to focus more in coop than in competitive in MP GaaS games.

That would help them shine and move a step forward in MP GaaS shooters while also making them more appealing to Sony's fanbase who prefers their narrative driven SP AAA games over MP games.

I really do think sony has this superiority complex of "we're the best, only the best for us" type mentality. Like it can be a good thing when youre on top and the industry youre in is predictable and stable, but can be a major flaw when the market suddenly becomes unpredictable with alot of new big players. Not saying these games will make or break playstation, theyre on the platfrom afterall. Its that if, IF, one these games takes off and becomes a hit it couldve been them publishing it and reaping the rewards, probably for a pretty cheap investment.

The selling point of the finals isn’t really the ‘goo gun” its the high level of destruction, you can clear entire buildings off the map. That alone creates an entirely new dynamic to multiplayer and pushes the genre and gaming forward since devs have been scared to go there for years as it requires a high amount of processing power to make it work right.

Seems more like bad timing to me. Theres no reason Sony wouldn’t want ex-Battllefield/DICE veterans making games for them but would fund an entirely new studio of ex Treyarch or Ubisoft Montreal.

People gotta stop with the arrogant sony thing, it doesn’t make sense to personify a major company with 1000’s of people making decisions there
