So, as the title suggest, considering how Sony are porting everything to PC, i mean not everything for now, but they will reach that sooner or later, as Jimbo and Hermen already have opened the Pandora box, do you think if somehow Steamdeck sales will become too important and may even get closer to PS5 consoles sales or even surpasses tho, then finally Sony will start realizing that PC ports are a mistake and they will fire both Jimb and hermen?

Jimbo is the most successful PlayStation leader regardless of how Xbox people, GAF and ERA think of him. There’s no reason at all to fire the guy.
If you didn’t go to forum boards and just hang out on Sony twitter circles, you wouldn’t even think about this.

How many times have the Steam Deck sold already?
The Deck is just some niche, only real gaming passionately people like us buying things like that. I am sure most casuals don’t know about the Deck is existing lol. So this question will never occur IMO.

It's not nitch when it starts charting on Japan sales charts.

And thats is going to happen when they get stock issues figured out.

Steam deck is a success already.

They sold like 23 steam decks so far, fulfilling first 1 second of the orders.
Production is at full capacity

For as much as people seem to hate Jimbo he made pretty much all the right calls from Sony perspective so far.

Increasing price to $70 - Looking like a great call with all the inflation.

Betting on crossgen games - Clearly the correct strategy due to the supply problems with the PS5.

Moving into the PC space - Same with the crossgen games, pretty much risk free when there is no supply of PS5s.

PS+ restructure - He didn't over commit by copying Xbox day one model. He focused on countering Gamepass greatest strength, value, while preserving what has worked great for PlayStation Studios so far. The trials thing was a really creative way to generate value for the service while actually possibly pushing people to buy more games (something MS always claimed that Gamepass did but that I doubt was ever true).

Putting Hermen Hulst as head of PlayStation Studios - Great call, an actual game developer that is respected by their internal studios.

Playing moneyball with acquistion instead of buying entire publisher - Too soon to call but odds are it's easier for Sony to integrate these handpicked studios, that they already have experience working with than it's going to be for MS to manage Bethesda and the nightmare that is Activison Blizzard.

The thing is Jimbo is old, sucks at doing the PR dance so when he tries to spin things they come across as blatant lies to everyone. 99% of what Phil Spencer says is bullshit yet the media loves the guy because he is good at the stringing people along.

From the purely financial perspective most were good...

Some may come at the expense of long term growth of the PS console and their main revenue and profit streams..... particularly the PC port initiative.

I would only put the GAAS games on PC. There is little to no benefit to putting anything more than a taster of the single player games on PC.
The entire point of exclusives is to attract to a platform.

So after the next few games release.... Spider-man, Ghost of Tsushima etc..... they should announce no further single player games will be brought to PC, if you want to experience the sequels, buy a PS5 and leave it at that.

With the PC ports it's a matter of "what are they losing by doing it?".

Clearly the PS5 keeps selling out and they also had the Xbox as a reference that people don't stop buying the console just because those games are also available on PC. It seem like the public that plays on PC but buy PS5 just for exclusive just isn't that significant compared to the public that have a PC, won't consider buying a console but is willing to play those games on PC. Sony never made any public commitment to it, they tested the waters and so far it seems to have worked out well for them.

From a financial perspective, Sony is fine with someone that would buy a PlayStation just for exclusive to just play them on PC instead.
