I just hope that if MS plan is to move to Windows Consoles that Valve will step in and make SteamOS available to every manufacturer to completely kill MS plans out of the gate.

PlayStation vs SteamOS vs Nintendo

That would be the best thing for the market, three completely different approaches, no Microsoft/Google/Amazon/Apple involvement.

A SteamOS console would reintroduce free online to consoles, much better storefront with a lot of features, great refund policy and the option to use your console as a general purpose computer.
Honestly, to me its shocking that Valve doesn't let Steamdeck "competitors" use SteamOS. The whole point of both is to futureproof against Windows Store, surely you want SteamOS to be the only serious way for High Def HandHelds to go?

The most reliable insider so far was the dude in that discord screenshot, and he mentioned Flight Simulator. Bet if that game gets ported the zealots will stop pretending like it's a huge deal.
I forgot about that, yeah he’s been right so far.

probably don't want to become a tech support company.

A Steam console doing those things would be pretty awesome, but it also wouldn't be a "console" anymore. If it were also able to function as a general-purpose computer it'd be a PC gaming box essentially, fashioned like a console, and would cost more than a typical console because by it's nature of being open-platform would mean storefronts and such can't be locked down to those which only Valve own/have control over.

Plus, they'd eventually have to allow any Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo, Epic, CDP etc. storefronts/launchers on the platform anyway as regulatory bodies would deem it a general computing device. At which point with all of these factors, it wouldn't really be competing directly with the PlayStations or Nintendos of the world (though would still be competing with them for gaming time & dollars obviously).

Good point though in that it could cause contention for Microsoft if they popularize the concept before Microsoft does, hence why I've been saying if MS continue gaming-specialized hardware, it should be in this type of avenue, and adapting a business model fitting it. Plus both Windows and Surface need an infusion to boost them, as does Xbox hardware...why not just merge them together at this point?

And I get it. Imagine being shafted by a company like that. I actually feel for the real Xbox fans, not the radicals.

Valve doesn't fear any other store you already can install anything you want on the deck. The deck is a proof of concept and shows that a SteamOS console could easily work.

If NathanDrake didn't rumored anything about Starfield, how he can backtrack on that???
He piggybacked on Xboxera. Basically: "I heard that too." Different source. He can backtrack but like dragon said, everyone else is doubling down. Also Tom Warren and Destin's interview from 2nd Feb pretty much confirms starfield too since Tom's article that was written after the interview said Indy was "being considered" vs 100% coming.

I want tears. Bring on the business update!
