Microsoft finances the outlets that pretended that cross-platform gameplay was the biggest issue in gaming, and any company that opposed it was anti-consumer.
Pay attention to how IGN, Eurogamer, The Verge, Windows Central etc. consistently regurgitate Xbox talking points. Their businesses depend on Ad and sponsorship revenue from Microsoft. So whatever lies and verifiably dumbass ideas that Xbox puts out, they must back them in order to continue receiving money from Microsoft. For example, Microsoft are now claiming that they have 500 Million Monthly Active Users on Xbox. They're completely full of shit, however, none of these publications are going to call them out on their Terrence Howard-esque math.
