Thread of me telling you sony would go after Kadokawa in June and not Square Enix and that it would happen within 3 years.
I think they should just build a new studio and have them make great games with new IPs and new experiences.
Building new studios isn't as easy as you think. It could easily take a decade to get a studio up and running from 0 employees to game completion...
It's just not super realistic in such an ever-changing environment. Especially in areas with already a high concentration of studios.
It makes more sense in developing countries (not the countries themselves necessarily, but where game development is beginning to advance).
This is why we have the China Hero Project and the India Hero Project and why you see Sony investing more in South Korea.
Everyone kind of missed the explosion in Poland that created CDPR and Techland. Sony is all over Netherlands with Guerrilla and Nixxes.
Ubi Soft has France and a lot of Canada on lockdown. T2 got a headstart with Private Division in Germany.
UK development seems to be flaming out, but Sony was there early.
I mean Japanese businesses are gonna be cheaper to run in Japan, so its not hard to believe if there talking about saving money etc.
And PS leaders change position or leave every few years. When has a head stayed on for longer than a generation?

Again, they're still hiring predominantly in California. If there was any real news or plans to move their HQ back to Japan, there would be signs, like a hiring freeze.

It's not a prediction that a leader at Sony won't stay forever, but specifically saying that Hulst will be out and Nishino will be in, is a specific prediction and a weird one given Hulst was just named co-CEO, so again for there to be some relevant information internally that could leak to someone like Eternal Wings, that simply would not have happened.

I can't imagine it is easy at all. But that would be my preference. They already have a great line up of studios, they know how to make 3rd party deals. Who knows, maybe one day!

Sony is the market leader, Take Two is a big American company, can they even afford it? Can they survive the antitrust battle?
Again, can you find an example that is analogous to this situation that was blocked by regulators?
Disney was the market leader in the pictures business and they bought a major competitor not just a supplier. This went through largely without a hitch.
Astrazeneca was allowed to buy Alexion.
I think a lot of gamers don't fundamentally understand regulators. So you just say things that sound right in your heads.
