I can't imagine it is easy at all. But that would be my preference. They already have a great line up of studios, they know how to make 3rd party deals. Who knows, maybe one day!

What happens when your preference isn't in line with reality?

It can take months to hire a single individual for a position. And then you sometimes don't know if you have even hired a quality person for 3-6 months. Sometimes even more than a year. Then you have pre-development starting from scratch probably a year or two after putting together a decent shell of a team.

Gamers are complaining that games take too long, but also have unrealistic expectations on how to form the teams. It doesn't make sense.

Again, can you find an example that is analogous to this situation that was blocked by regulators?

Disney was the market leader in the pictures business and they bought a major competitor not just a supplier. This went through largely without a hitch.

Astrazeneca was allowed to buy Alexion.

I think a lot of gamers don't fundamentally understand regulators. So you just say things that sound right in your heads.

I've discussed how sony could go about making the purchase.
Their are many cases were regulators blocked the market leader from buying a big company.

Thats a exception to the rule.

I do understand regulators. Sony buying Take Two is a pipe dream. Nice to dream about, but theirs a tiny chance of that happening.

Cite them and more importantly, the reason why the M&A was blocked.

Again I am no leaker, just someone who is lucky enough to know someone who has info. No sharing source means no sharing. Like I said I don't care if anyone of you does believe it or not. We will see who is the liar.
You go from talking about a rumour about SIE moving back to Japan, to saying it's your personal prediction "for the coming years", to saying you have a confidential source.

You're all over the place bud.

SIE CEO's change periodically anyways, so it's not much of a "prediction". The sun will rise tomorrow.

I think they should just build a new studio and have them make great games with new IPs and new experiences.

They can do this, but they need to buy buy buy too. Buy studios they already have a working relationship with, buy successful IPs. Since MS has bought many and Nintendo’s IPs are selling millions and millions, Sony need to do more.

They cant just risk making new studios and new ips, all the time and that be there only strategy.
Technically Sony should of bought FromSoft after Bloodborne. Just like they did House Marque, Bluepoint, Insomniac, ND after there successful partnerships. They should of also bought Level 5 after decades of working together and also Quantic Dreams after Detroit.
This would of been normal business for them. Followed by Kena developers after there 2nd game where they partner with each other to some extent.

I cant think of the last time Xbox, Sony, Nintendo, Valve made a new studio, which made them a successful new ip right away? Its very hard either way.

TBH I cant think of the last time anyone done it. Games like Stellar Blade or Kena who are first time developers are good but extremely rare

Sony cant be locked out of buying studios and publishers because people dont like it.
MS went and bought like 20-10 popular IPs and bought 2 studios in Ninja Theory and obsidian. Tencent and others went on a spending spree. No1 can expect Sony not to because they dont like them to not buy. Its there smartest choice and should have started spending more when MS went and bought Bethesda. If Playstation want to survive, they need more IPS

Id rather Sony not buy so big and go smaller and Japanese. The max Id want them to venture into the western companies, is something like Remedy or at most Ubisoft and thats only because of the flood gates MS and Tencent and others have opened with buying so much.
Would be great if Take Two doesnt sell out to a bigger company

It is a rumor I heard from someone I know through ResetEra. He is known leaker who didn't talk openly about this topic. It's not my prediction, it's his info. Anyway Idc what you believe or not. Just don't say later I was guessing when Sony really moves the PS HQ to Japan back.

Horizontal mergers get blocked more often. Sony buying Take two is a horizontal merger. Sony is also market leader. It's not happening. You can dream about it tho.

So you can't cite examples or the reasons for the blockage?

Sony bought Bungie, why wasn't it blocked? You realize Bungie is much bigger than FromSoftware right?

And also no, this is a vertical merger. FromSoftware/Kadokawa are not competitors for PlayStation. Do you know how you can tell that? Because FromSoftware games are on PlayStation.

Horizontal would be Sony buying Xbox, Nintendo, or Valve.

That you can't cite examples, that you can cite reasons, that you get definitions wrong... I'm going to call it here and disengage.

why does this matter? are you lined up for employment under sony japan? :ROFLMAO:
No this rumor is just exciting for me. It would show us which path PlayStation would have decided for: Betting on Japan. My nerdy vein is ofc happy too if this development unfolds.

I already gave you reasons for blocking and reasons why it's a pipe dream. You just ignored it. If you really think there werent similar mergers that were blocked, I have a bridge to sell you. Like I said, theoretically it's possible, but is it realistic? No.

You are just waffling.

Horizontal merger and what not.

After the ABK merger anything is possible now. If the largest 3rd party publisher can be bought then they all can.

The issue isn’t the regulators anymore. They allowed the largest one through the door. The only issue now is money.

Does Sony have 30 billion plus a premium to acquire Take 2? Maybe.

Will they spend that on a games publisher? I doubt.

Not getting blocked if Sony cough up the Money and Take 2 accept.

Of course Sony will need to outbid other companies too.

Theres some good that comes from this, but Japan organisations and how they are run can have issues. Even though I prefer PS in Japan.

Sony Japan no longer has Kaz or Ken who were passionate for Playstation and believed in it.

So what we get can be very good, or can also get alot of the typical Japanese company that has old men making choices they have no idea about. Hopefully the advisors push them in the right direction
The message so far hasnt been so faithful in console yet. Before this Kadokawa attempt, PS fans were hating how PS heads were handling things including me and you.

Working for a Japanese tech company like I have or my friends have done for a long time, means there can be alot of throwing shit at the wall and seeing if it sticks moments. Alot of half assed attempts and then blaming the goal not the attempt and planning.

Not that its a Japan only thing but Nintendo does it all the time too. Its kinda in the culture of alot of companies in Japan.

They waste alot of money on projects they have no idea about. I work in freelance too and when testing software, when I speak to some of the developers of a program, alot of them know its a failed project but the upper heads made the go ahead with the project because their bosses wanted it and they are all convinced it will work, most the time people totally out of touch. It happens alot lol.

For Sony going for FromSoft and other popular IPs and Japanese studios is a great start though.
Overall I think they are better off in Japan but take some good lessons they learn with the PS4 starting team.

Lets see what other decisions they make and hopefully they have a clear plan and put things together.

Fromsoftware and then shift up
ShiftUp had become pretty expensive after the success of Stellar Blade. They have currently a market cap of 2-3B Dollar. That's nearly as much as Kadokawa. Not worth it, staying partners is probably cheaper if Sony just publishes their games. Imo if Sony should look for Korean companies then I would believe one of those: NeoWiz, Pearl Abyss or NCSoft. All make great games and would be vastly cheaper in comparison to ShiftUp.
