Xbox doesn't need to die, it needs to get back to when it was a decent console/department and trying to emulate Nintendo, Sony and Sega. Since 2010 they went from crap to a detriment to the industry, there's no argument there.
Having just Sony and Nintendo doesn't offer us more choice and if Xbox leaves the industry, it will be replaced my another American big-tech firm. As bad as Microsoft are, and they are bad, at least their incompetence stops them from really becoming a big evil in the industry.
Imagine an Apple console, where the games are now £150 a pop and the console costs £1500. The pubs/devs would flock to that as it offers them more profit. 3rd parties - the majority of which are American and of them, all of them employ scumbag tactics, would choose Apple's high price all day long.
Gamepass is a brilliant idea with terrible execution aimed at the wrong part of the market. It should be equivelent to a Football clubs' Youth Academy, not offering top-flight games for pennies on the £
