At least there is 2 PS5 titles in the top 10. Sony needs to do more to target the audience in Japan. Street Fighter and Final Fantasy in the next Month. They need a Dragon Quest and some more classics and niche games
There is only one PS5 title, in reality : SWJ Survivor. Hogwarts Legacy is the PS4 version and I seriously dobt that any PS5 possessor has waited 3 months to buy the inferior version for his console. I'm sure they could even easily find a PS5 second hand copy by now, if they were so much money sensible.

The whole chart is anemic software wise... I mean the top seller in a two weeks tracking dureing the Golden Week is anemic.
I can only think for one reason...

Digital exists.... digital is probably way bigger than the Japan sales analysts are guessing in all pltafforms.

You even have 500k PS5 that only play digital games in Japan.

There is a CESA report from 2018 showing digital only accounted for around 18% of software sales, so I'm interested to see what software sales for physical PS4 titles were at around that time or even going back to 2016, to see if the physical drop-off is actually as bad as people try to claim.

Even if it is, as you said digital might account for a much larger part of the software sales, particularly on PS5.

Actually, here are some Media Create sales data from May 2016, pulled from NeoGAF:

Notice anything? Most of the Top 10 are below 10K in software sales; comparatively, ALL of the Top 10 in the Famitsu chart for this month are above 10K, and they all mostly happen to be Nintendo games.

I genuinely think the software phenomenon we're seeing with the Switch in Japan is specifically unique to that system and only really benefiting Nintendo's own 1P software because it looks like Top 10s back 2016 (as one example) were generally filled with games pushing under 10K but still managed to chart.

I actually wonder if PS+ is cannibalizing ps5 software sales in Japan by a lot. I just upgraded to extra and the amount of games on there is quite a lot, maybe even comparable to when I tried psnow a few years ago... and the average quality is quite high.

Japan is the land of portables and mobile now. If Sony wanted to win back Japan software wise it would be through mobile games through their Aniplex company.

Where it’s at.
As always, that dipshit nautilus makes the gaf version of these threads insufferable.
Yeah, but you’ve gotta admit seeing him get roasted constantly is hilarious.

In this week’s thread he posted a very self-righteous “We aren’t here to mock others, we are here to talk sales, so stop derailing the thread” post, and got shit on even more than his usual room-temperature IQ fanboy horseshit usually does.

It was beautiful.
