Jordan Middler from VGC might be suggesting Naughty Dog's new single player game is a new IP.

This was from a discussion about Naughty Dog potentially wasting time and resources working on the remaster instead of something new. Not sure if there's anything true to Jordan's statement, but here's hoping.

Jordan's comment.

He says "an original", meaning "an original game, not a remaster". Doesn't say a "new IP" or "an original IP".

Which is obvious because we know ND is working on at least 3 new games, being at least one of the three SP, because ND said so.

ND also said way before this that in addition to more on TLOU and Unchrted they wanted to work in new IP and not ono reviving older IPs (as Jak). On top of this, ND created a new IP every generation with the exception of the previous one, so for sure they'll create a new IP this generation.

So pretty likely their games under development are TLOU Online, a new IP and the third could be either TLOU3 or an Uncharted game.

As a side not, in recent times Sony also started to make their big studios to codevelop games as we saw with Firesprite+Guerrilla in Horizon CoM or SSM+Bluepoint in GoWR. So maybe they are codeveloping part of these games with other studio, as could be an Uncharted VR game with Firesprite or maybe a new IP with SSM or Bend, or something like that.

Having a small team working on a small scale remaster while the rest of the studio is on a new game makes sense.

It does not mean that less people are working on the main project, people always have down time anyway and the project probably does not uses all the ressources at the same time.

This is much better than laying off people.

Wouldn't read too much into this, Bluepoint was working on "original content" and that turned out to be God of War Ragnarok.

Yes. Specially when a good part of the remaser prety likely has been outsourced to some other studio as was the case of the Uncharted remasters and the TLOUP1 remake.

The ND team of the TLOU2 remaster must have been avery small portion of the studio considering they are working on at least 3 new games. It's simply stupid to complain about ND being focused on remasters on remakes when they are working on more brand new games at the same time than even before.
