"One source now tells Kotaku that the multiplayer game, while not completely canceled, is basically on ice at this point."

Good to see Jim Ryan's GAAS legacy still taking L's.

What's even more sad is the fact that they had a working Factions that could've shipped with the base game in 2020, but wanted to turn it into a full blown GAAS.

Grain of salt.
Doesn't sound like a studio that is expanding…

Will have to see. TLOU 2 Factions sounded likea dream game for me and Im not much of an multiplayer gamer. TLOU universe, single player story experience but in an online game that gets expanded like Destiny/RDR online or GTA online.

'Shelved' implies canceled. The game isn't canceled. It's on pause.

The headline suggests the game is canceled. Should be edited.

Didn’t we already know that Factions development was paused? Schreier already reported it. The layoffs report is weird since it’s been reported that Naughty Dog was expanding.

Naughty Dog’s Online game wasn’t Jim Ryan’s idea you idiot. It was Naughty Dog themselves who decided to make it it’s own big thing. You can blame Jim Ryan for some things, but this isn’t one of them.

Yep, Factions was my most anticipated game from all of Sony first party as a TLOU fan. The rumors of it basically being cancelled last year made me move to PC as my primary platform.

Shelved, paused, and on ice basically mean the same thing. The game is basically dead and ND spent more than 3 years on this wild goose chase.

shelved
decide not to proceed with (a project or plan), either temporarily or permanently.
"plans to reopen the school have been shelved"

The game should be part of TLOU2 in 2020.
They lose a lot trying to make an standalone game.

It was one of my mot anticipated part of the game in 2020 but now? All the hype died to be fair.

The MP in TLOU was unique and innovate… a fresh take at time with all MP games going going into Gears like (even Uncharted took similar Gears formula).

It was really amazing.

But ND fucked it in 2020.

I consider TLOU Part 1 to PS5 and PC being a half backed product due the lack of MP… it I basically half of the game launched in 2013 or the remaster in 2014.

Should of just made the standard multiplayer like the first game and expanded it more. Not no gaas nonsense.

TLOU multiplayer was so damn creative and fun to play.

Are the servers even online anymore?

Thtas interesting, because Moore's Law is Dead said he heard Factions 2 was originally a launch ps5 game. I was like "that cant be right" but maybe it was?
