A footage from last year Microsoft event called Hackathon shows they are working to improve and optimize the Windows 11 experience on handhelds... in this specific case they showed the Steam Deck.

The presenteer still said that Microsoft team is "creating a truly optimised Windows experience for the handheld PC market. Windows and Xbox app users deserve this, need this,"

You know the Asus competitor to Steam Deck called Asus ROG Ally will ship with Windows 11.

Microsoft are not working on it according to the guy who started the project. He said on reddit:

"I started this hackathon project and it didn’t go much of anywhere, but this article uses wording to make it seem like it’s something under development. Problem is - We just didn’t have the right engineers to do a lot of what we wanted to do in the short hackathon project timeframe."

Weird because in the presentation he says (if the same guy) the exactly opposite... that Microsoft team was working on it.

Microsoft Hackathons are essentially small projects Microsoft employees work as a team for a specific timeframe with the opportunity to win something.

They are not actual things Microsoft are trying to implement or create. Now some may become that but if it is apart of a Hackathon like the leaked video it's just that, a temp project for employees for fun/competition/team building mostly

If Microsoft were smart they'd build a handheld os to counter off steamos gaining any significant market share. Kinda like how android beat them to the punch in mobile because Microsoft did see it as worthwhile at the time

If they could fix Windows 11 you'd think that they would just do it for other reasons besides just having an answer to the Steam Deck.

Being shit and bloated is the entire point of Windows 11.

They could create an Xbox like experience, after all that runs on a windows core
