Phil was correct that exclusives won't save Xbox because there is no saving Xbox. Mattrick killed the brand over a decade ago.”
It's even harder because Xbox is overall decent while Epic Games Store is radioactive dogshit. If you've lost so much mindshare that a decent product still fails, you gotta throw in the towel.

Your comment stands correct, from the point of view of Sony Vs Microsoft. I want to know what the overall figures are across the industry. If Sony are no longer the dominant company in the industry, and the majority of revenue is made from mobile, gatcha and MTX, then their feud with Microsoft becomes pointless and Sony becomes a drop in the ocean.
But we already know mobile accounts for more than half of gaming revue, it's been like tht for years.

Billion U.S. dollars in global revenue.

Mobile has only grown since 2022. Tencent has and is number one company in gaming.

I think some forget that mobile gaming just grew out of nowhere. Sony and Steam still are breaking records for pc and console revenue. You can't compete with mobile when casino slot games are included and using addicts for their money. This is why GTA5 casino is closed in europe and overwatch 2 became free cause the lootboxes were banned as well.

As a PS5 owner, Halo Infinite isn't the one I'm excited to have on Playstation. Xbox has really flubbed this franchise to the point where Halo 4/5 are so far in the past and maybe not beloved enough to bother refreshing them. Master Chief collection would be a nice intro for Playstation players, but that doesn't get you up to date with the modern games.

Gears of War is in a similar situation, but remastering the whole series from 1-4, and porting 5 would benefit all platforms.

They can keep both, only game I'm midly interested in is Flight sim, thts it.

It was foreseeable imo. From my own experience, I don't have enough time to play subscription games. And if you look at the market, a lot of F2P and live service games are being played. That's why EA FC and CoD are so successful.

I myself am a big fan of the Mihoyo games and have invested over 600 hours in Genshin Impact alone and 200 hours in Honkai Star Rail. I used to stick with FF14, MHW/MHR and Warframe for weeks. I don't need a long-term subscription to have access to more games. I prefer to only buy what I want to support and what really interests me.

For the Persona 3 remake I'm using 1 month of GP because I'm not willing to support Atlus by buying it at full price if something like that ends up in the GP straight away.

I still like to use PS+ because the monthly games end up in my library and can be played whenever I feel like it and have time for it.

If I'm not mistaken, most sales are made with MTX. This also suggests that purchases are made more specifically and more time and money are invested. I even know a few people who only play Fortnite.

What's the point of having a digital video store to rent games? As long as some games can be played for hundreds of hours, subscriptions will not catch on. Things would certainly have been different 20-30 years ago. I went there myself and rented games over the weekend that took 4-10 hours to play through.

This is not surprising.
Xbox sales currently in the toilet, that's leading to a lack of growth for Gamepass and PC Gamepass, even with adding more and more countries is not going to lead to substantial growth, it'll just try to offset the lack of growth on the console side.
PlayStation clearly feels like they've capped somehow, so they're price gouging with PS+ as all corporations do when they want the line to go up.
NSO has improved massively from the beginning in terms of what it's delivering but I'm sure the growth there isn't spectacular.

As for the third parties like Ubi+ and EA Play and the others that I can't recall.
With all the big publishers coming back to Steam in recent years, it's clear what's happening there, the profits are not where they would want it to be.

He thinks Game Pass will save Microsoft and the growth is stagnant. He believes it will take off on the cloud with mobile users. It's very unlikely that we will see billions of players on the cloud, it's just going to be another niche product for 15+ years.

They can only grow by going third party.
