Matt Piscatella thinks PlayStation has one more gen of physical retail games and Nintendo two. Xbox obviously is already killing physical.

The day PS doesn’t sell physical will be sad for me. Some of my friends say they’re moving to PC when that happens.
But PC is all digital

If it was the day PS doesn't sell physical I will stop to play games... that makes sense.
But moving from a platform because it is digital to another that is digital feels weird to me.

It's true that the PC is almost 100% digital, but on the PC you've got Steam, which brings everything together and prices are much cheaper than on consoles, and your games you keep for life and are compatible with your future hardware, unlike consoles where it's more expensive and you have no guarantee of backwards compatibility.

Some ppl are only holding onto consoles because they offer physical despite the many PC benefits and better aspects. The same way some ppl hold on to consoles due to exclusives. Once you don't have tht leverage or advantage why stay on consoles when you can have free online, more games, etc... It makes perfect sense to me.

this is the same way i feel with Sony if they go day and date why would i invest in a console when i have a pc that is very capable. Want to upgrade boom just have to replace the GPU. My CPU should be decent for another 5 years or so who knows lol

I think their point is that if both PS and PC are digital only, they’d prefer a PC for some reason.

I wouldn't though. I like all the little QoL features of a console while being orders or magnitude cheaper.

I moved from physical in 2018... I don't see why anyone would buy them outside of special/collectors editions. putting a disk in to play a game.... sorry bro but you are trapped in the 90s/00s

Nintendo it is then, two gens would get us to 2040+.

Physical is the best thing about consoles, responsible for most of it's value. You can collect, sell your games and buy used, what's not to like about it?

Opening up a new disc is still much more rewarding than buying digital, it just feels right.

All digital consoles makes no sense, you have only one store to buy from, physical media still protects even users that by digital only from being completely abused. PC gets away with digital only because of having multiple stores and a long history of rampant piracy that put pressure on Steam and publishers to not abuse their position.

Mat is not an insider. He has no idea what he is talking about. He also doesn't realize the regulatory reasons why Sony will probably continue to sell physical retail nor is he considering that there is a good chance that when Sony creates a handheld that they'll produce physical media for that as well.

Also ignores that certain regions probably are high percentage physical media, which still brings in considerable revenue.

I mean when ppl come into threads from Matt and other analysts I hope they know they are guessing based off a combination of many things including how the market is moving, guesses, certain numbers etc.

I understand that....

But in that case being digital is not the issue but others things.

Even if physical media only represented 5% of sales, I would envision Sony continuing it, simply to stave off lawsuits AND to ensure a presence in physical retail. They don't even do direct sales in Japan yet.

It's a lazy hypothesis that no one will check him on.

Edit: Going digital only may bring rebuke in Europe where other digital stores become required cutting into actual revenue.

That was what I understood too.
Their issues are more in others things that PC do better than console than digital itself.... physical media is probably just holding a bit more then go to PC but it was not the deal breaker.

In any case I will continue on console until it end to exists... the moment I have only the PC option I will probably stop to play games :D

BTW I'm mostly 100% digital on PS5.

also "game preservation" is a buzzword for oldheads to feel important. digital is the isn't the future, is the present :ROFLMAO:
