Metacritic portal published a list of the 20 best games released for the Xbox this year and unfortunately Starfield was left out due to its low Metascore. Metacritic claims to have created this list based on games released for Xbox One and Xbox Series S|X from January 1, 2023 to December 31, 2023, using the Metascore as a parameter:

Which Xbox games impressed professional reviewers the most during the past year? This page contains Metacritic's official list of the 20 best-reviewed titles released for Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One between January 1, 2023 and December 31, 2023 ranked by Metascore. Only 3 (console) exclusives in the top 20, being the first one in top 14, the second being a port of a 4 years old remaster of a PC game and Forza -a former Xbox flagship series- in the top 20. The supposed new flagship series and supposed most important game of the generation for them, didn't even got top 20 in an Xbox only ranking.

Doesn't look good.

Wait, where is Spidey 2??
On PS5

Wasn’t Starfield considered their biggest, most important game since the original Gears of War? If this isn’t proof that Xbox is a failing brand, I don’t know what is. Xbox needed this game to be a hit, they needed it to be that GOTY contender, that killer app that would turn the Xbox into a must have console and they couldn’t deliver.

I have no clue why people still have faith in this brand. Even with Microsoft’s billion dollar investments in the brand, they can’t even put a dent in PlayStation’s market share.

What else is there to be excited for? ABK? A company that makes nothing but annual CoD games that are gonna release on PlayStation anyway?

Don’t be surprised when Xbox inevitably kills off CoD too. They acquired Halo and killed it, acquired Gears and killed it, and killed off Fable and Perfect Dark Any important franchise this brand has had, they managed to kill every single one, aside from Forza. You might as well add CoD to that list of casualties too.

How insanely damning was it that Microsoft internal review saw Redfall as an 8/10 game? Xbox has no hope with MS lifers running the show, but nobody from outside wants anything to do with them after Peter Moore opened up about how awful it was to try to run a games operation under the Borg.

So much this! It's incredible this gets overlooked.

That's what MS considers a good game.

To be completely honest, I think they were still expecting the 2-point boost all MS first-party games got during the 360 generation was a thing. While the games press gives them an easy time of things, that charity no longer extends to review scores.

The game is not even in top 30 games of this year. Starfield is no different from Redfall to me.
