Modern Warfare 3 is almost here,” Activision begins its post detailing the release and file sizes. “In preparation, we would like to provide an update on file sizes which are larger than last year.” The publisher explains that the larger sizes are “due to the increased amount of content available” on launch day, such as the highly anticipated open-world Zombies and items from previous games like Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone’s maps.

Activision then clarifies that “as part of our ongoing optimization efforts, your final installation size will be actually smaller than the combined previous Call of Duty experiences” and goes on to say we can manage all of the files “in the ‘manage files’ section of the CoD HQ launcher menu.” This means that any unused content that you find you’re not actively playing through is available to selectively uninstall.

"Increased amount of content" = Multiple duplicates of assets, so the game will work on HDD's/last-gen consoles.

No need to optimize, when you can just ship it and say fuck it.

What I hate the most about COD is the constant HUGE updates everytime you turn on your PS5, most of it for Warzone even if you don't play. It was a relief to delete all of it and get 200gb back.

If you select stream HQ assets you also lose about 50gb in the "other" folder in your internal SSD (even if COD is installed elsewhere). You don't see it anywhere so you don't know COD is taking it.

Good luck making a Switch port now that they are legally forced to do it.

By comparison, according to the website HowLongToBeat, which collates how long it took members of their community to complete games, the campaign in last year’s Modern Warfare 2 took around eight hours to beat.

While some older Call of Duty campaigns clock in at around the 6- to 7-hour mark, Modern Warfare 3’s campaign seems to be one of the shorter campaigns for a mainline COD.

The single-player campaign for Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 can be finished in 3 to 4 hours, according to players who’ve been playing the game in early access.

The campaign was released on Thursday for players who’d pre-ordered the digital edition of the game, giving them access to the single-player portion a week ahead of the full release.

But now, following that release, players have reported that the campaign is clocking in at around 3 to 4 hours in length.

Prominent Call of Duty streamer Marley13 played through the campaign in almost exactly four hours.

Activision's bold new vision for unifying the Call of Duty experience is off to a bad start. With the early release of Modern Warfare 3's campaign, players are discovering that launching Call of Duty HQ, the unified front end for current and future CoD titles, is required to access the new game. That might not be such a big deal if it wasn't so slow, inelegant, and seemingly pointless. Call of Duty is now a launcher within a launcher, and it sucks.

If their plan was to make it one release that gets yearly DLC, they should've done a soft reboot of the series by releasing a base game just called "Call of Duty" and then name the DLC each year as if it's another game. Even that's a bad idea, but it's better than saying "Alright, Modern Warfare 2 is our new base game and all future 'games' will be DLC for it."

LOL

And this was a business decision predating the completion of the buyout.

Bodes well for the future.

I played one hour of campaign and got my refund," announced one player. "And I think you should too if you feel the same way I felt. This was a couple lacklustre raid episodes out together; having just finished COD Remastered recently this game failed to capture what it means to be in a campaign, and if this is how it all begins then I’m sorry, MW3 does not redeem itself from the shitshow MW2 caused at launch and somehow continues to make fun of my wallet. I’ll be holding off on touching this game until something positive comes back from this community. Peace."

"What a slap in the face, I am shocked and appalled," added one unhappy player. "The writing was on the wall this entire time if you really think about it. I will admit we had about two or three missions that really stood out. That open combat garbage though? If this is the direction of campaign going forward, this is officially the death of CoD.

So I take it this newest cod game is exceptionally bad? I mean it’s not like the previous glamés were good from What I heard about the series. way too much negative press but I guess for cod players to be complaining the latest game is mediocre must mean that they did something exceptionally bad during the creation of this cod lol.

Exactly! It's not like the campaign bar is that high but when you initially hear the game is going to be dlc and then the company says they instead are going to release a whole game but see this shortened campaign, it makes you do a double take and think "are they ripping me off" and it seems that might be the case. We don't pay a now more expensive $70 to get less or at least we shouldn't!!! That is the point.

BTW sone COD games in the past have had some solid campaigns.

Can these topics be under one MW3 launch thread? It’s too much atp.
Sometimes they are. All topics will and should not be bunched under one thread as then it will get lost within it and some hot topics ppl will not see.

Of course but in this case no one cares enough about CoD here to warrant this persistent coverage.
