My Opinion: Xbox should buy PlayStation and end the console wars

A lot of people are upset that Microsoft has bought Bethesda and Activision Blizzard and I understand it. For myself though I am all for it. Even from the very early days I have been in favour of a one format future and yet previously that has never looked like it was going to happen. When I was a kid there were more formats than you could count: computers (Amiga, Atari ST, PC), console (Mega Drive and SNES), and portables (Game Boy and Game Gear).

This streaming future is something I very much want to avoid for games, especially as Xbox is already pushing for streaming and Sony is no doubt going to do so as well. It’s not just for the sake of convenience, although that is a big part of it, but because I truly think it’s necessary for gaming to evolve as an industry. So much of the console wars is due simply to people only being able to afford one console and rather than admit they might be missing out they prefer to rubbish the other ones and pretend to themselves they don’t need them.

Now, there’s not much chance of Microsoft buying Nintendo. They’ve tried before and Nintendo laughed them out of the meeting room, and that’s when they weren’t doing as well as they are today. But that’s fine, they do their own thing and it’ll probably always be that way. But Sony, they make consoles that are functionally almost identical to Xbox. They make different kinds of games, but they’d still work perfectly well on Xbox, with nothing being lost. Nobody would have to buy two consoles, there’d be no more exclusives, and Microsoft and its developers could just get on with making great games instead of constantly fighting a war with Sony, and vice versa. The console wars would be over and not only would all the inconvenience be gone but, hopefully, so would a lot of the toxic attitudes. So much of this is brought on by fans arguing one format over the other and taking that away could make video games in general a lot friendlier and more welcoming.

I kind of agree with this. Microsoft makes better hardware (Xbox Series X for example), has the better services (Game Pass), way more 1st party publishers (+ 2 publishers) and A LOT more money. Microsoft will buy more 1st party studios and maybe even a third publisher.
But I would rather see Sony go 3rd party. Stop making consoles and just make games for all platforms (PC, Xbox, Switch). I already discussed this here.
I think when Sony's upcoming 10 GaaS games all flopped they will realize it's time to move on and become a 3rd party publisher.

It is debatable if series x is better hardware. I don’t personally think so.
And Sony got better 1st party despite Xbox having 40 studios.
On top of that, ps premium got plenty good games in there.

Not all of us lol. I am disappointed with Xbox currently. I want nothing more than for them to grow there already existing I.P's/studios... Its been to long of a wait.

2- better technology (ssd, better controller, faster downloading, multi tasking, etc)
3-no drm
4- Ps plus has better games than gamepass ( don't give the day one bullshit when they have no games)
5-vr support
6-no proprietary hard drive
7- better multi plats and better high framerates

Now tell in what part series X is better than ps5?

XSX is more powerful overall. That is a fact. Sony almost needed 1 1/2 years to add a half-baked VRR. It's simply not as good as the XSX. At least it's better than the XSS.

Not only faster loading times, 1 2 sec? More like 10 20 sec. Also games have small size and patches.

Vrr on xbox I'd good if games drop below 40fps and guess what? 99% of ps5 games don't drop below 40fps. Also the vrr implementation in Spider Man and Horizon is better than anything on xbox.

Also loads of screen tearing on xbox games. Something that don't happen on ps5

In fact ps5 shouldn't be able to beat or have better looking games than series X.

i really like the ps5 controller too, its an amazing piece of kit that does not get enough praise imo
