'Netflix (NFLX) has chosen Microsoft (MSFT) to help roll out its new ad-supported offering — but one analyst says the deal might conceal "a hidden agenda" while questioning the timeline of this agreement.

"It could be that Netflix is looking for an exit," Laura Martin, Needham senior analyst, told Yahoo Finance Live on Thursday, proposing perhaps the streaming giant is making long-term play to be acquired by Microsoft.

The analyst went on to explain that no other company that Netflix could have partnered with would have been able to make the $100 billion purchase, either due to financial constraints or regulatory issues.

"Netflix is trying to get closer to Microsoft in hopes that, after Microsoft digests its Activision acquisition, it turns and buys Netflix next," Martin suggested.

The bold prediction comes as Martin questioned Netflix's decision given Microsoft's lack of experience in the third-party ad tech business.'

Would this be a smart move for MSFT or were you hoping they would go for something else?

As and expert of jack shit. This was my "big pp move" if Sony was smart (not an acquisition necessarily).

Back in the day 2013-ish. I remember listening (in the movie industry reporting) that Play Station (Andrew House) was going to overtake the direction of Sony Pictures or some shit like that.

Just imaging this.

You are playing your BloodBorne two 😆. There there is a tab: "related media". And then you see a VR Concert, Movies, Animes and even Mangas/Comics.

As and example. Thanks to P.T. I discover Junji Ito. Gravity Rush would recommend One Piece (the same composers) and Prometheus for example. Bloodborne (some Lovecraft-related shit).

Because Sony pictures suck big ass. They only were saved thank to the Spider-man's deal.

Regarding a MS acquisition....I can see that. But I don't know how successful Apple TV is.

And MS is fucked up in the content/entertainment space. 😆.

MS have run 'Windows Live Search', now 'Bing' as both a search engine and an advertisement platform powering the backend of several products, since like 2006?

This is what I always thought they'd do through continuing to capitalize more on Until Dawn (/that style of game) during the PS4 era, and up until like this week when SMG got bought, I still think they 'should' have.

Until Dawn got 3x PS4 games across story-choose-your-own-adventure (Until Dawn), VR story (The Inpatient) and a VR on rails shooter (Until Dawn: Rush Of Blood). I was certain they'd fart out some Sony produced Until Dawn tv show and sell it to Netflix; and also chop-up the original Until Dawn game for Netflix play, like Black Mirror: Bandersnatch.

Yep. That's is a good example actually.

But I think there is some bad blood between Sony Pictures/Play Station. And Supermassive relationship didn't end that well either.

Do MS wanna launch into media content? again?

Granted.... it's a little different taking-over Netflix, than their past efforts (Zune/XB Music & Video/Groove products).

Surely this would be more of a Sony play, given their media arm?

Someone said that about the Supermassive relationship the other day too? Do we know, as the general public, what happened there?

There best-not be Sony Pictures/PS friction after all that 'One Sony' approach bollocks. This anything to do with some mobile games are raking-in money for the media/anime side of Sony, and PS is jealous; literally having to re-start their own PS Mobile division under the PS arm; instead of moving over the assets of older PS Mobile division that they shut down?

Very stupid move. Netflix is on the decline and has lost the support of the public opinion.
That's right when Microsoft buys stuff though. :p

Skype, Nokia, Activision, and on and on.

Dang I am not trying to come across like a hater! I just don't think they make a lot of very smart moves.

I also don't think it's going to happen. I don't get the fit between the product and what MS wants to do.
