Nintendo has responded to concern over the inappropriate use of its characters online and said it would take "appropriate action" against anything that would make some players "feel uncomfortable".

Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa was recently questioned by a shareholder who said they had "come across cases on social media where Nintendo IP and games are used inappropriately". This "inappropriate" use of Nintendo's characters "poses the risk of damaging" the company's brand, the question continued - so what was Nintendo planning to do about it?

"I will refrain from commenting on individual cases, but we believe that appropriate action must be taken against any behaviour that undermines this policy," Furukawa continued, without specifying what that action might entail.

"Our goal is to create an environment where everyone can enjoy playing games. We will continue to make every effort to ensure that our consumers are not made to feel uncomfortable, not only in our games but also anywhere they come into contact with our IP."

What can they even do?
Copyright/DMCA?

There’s been a big fiasco in the clash of clan community where Supercell copyright & took down a clash of clan YouTube video because the video was “harsh against supercell & the clash of clan game”

I mean, what did you expect them to say? "We do not care how our characters are depicted in other media, and would never go to court over such an issue."? They pretty much have to say this and, yes, if someone actually does commit copywrite or trademark violations against them they probably would look into it if made aware.

Edit: Having said that, "Bowsette" is probably so far removed from actual Nintendo depictions that you would be hard pressed to win a case on her. Because I look at the character depictions used in the OP and I do not see Peache's eyes and hair, or any actual Bowser parts aside from, perhaps the shell on the left being depicted somewhat accurately.

Maybe Nintendo should stop sueing the shit out of everyone. History showed us it doesn't stop anything.
For every modder shut down, 5 new ones appear.

Nintendo should focus on games. It's not like they'll go bankrupt...

Is this gonna be about cartoon porn and hentai or sellers of products appropriating Nintendo IP?

Because I don’t think you can stop the former successfully. People’s imaginations will forever run wild in bizarre ways.

Other products using their IP or blatant clones of Nintendo IP to sell pirate boxes at shopping malls for example etc… that for sure should be taken out for all they’re worth.

I thought this was about Palworld at first 🤣

The English Q&A edited the question out, but if you take a look at the original question in Japanese, it was question due to a Japanese cosplayer sending dick picks to minors, often as Mario.

Q: I heard of a case where a cosplayer of Nintendo IP sexually harassed minors on social media. [...] I'd like to hear what Nintendo can do about this.

A: We can't comment on individual cases, but we do not tolerate discrimination or harassment.

Didn't they already try this before? It ain't gonna do anything

It's just the typical answer to a random Q&A question: Yes we are looking in this, yes this is not in line with our company's value, etc.
