Not to mention a handheld is a handheld, not a console. Switch is a very successful portable. But the successor might not be.
Switch is an interesting case… unique.
Nintendo had two markets:
Wii -> back to GameCube, N64 with Wii U
DS -> saw significant drop in sales with 3DS
There were not in a good position.
So they have the ideia to merge the two market hopping that the overlap was not big enough to allow them to grow.
They kinda was successful… why kinda? Because the overlap was indeed big… Wii + DS had what? 250 million units sold? They lose that.
But they where successful in stop the decline… they probably should have more decline after Wii U and DS but Switch hold pretty well.
It even did better in that regards… Switch not only stopped the decline… it build (or recovered) a little of Nintendo market.
I wish all luck to Switch 2 but I don’t think it will live to Switch name because Nintendo doesn’t have that ace to merge user bases anymore.
I feel like they will face another decline in user base.
And I’m day one buyers after I had kids.
