February video game hardware spending fell 32% when compared to a year ago, to $391 million. PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and Switch spending each declined a minimum of 30% year-on-year. Hardware spending finished the first quarter down 24% versus the first quarter of 2023.
Some people will put their fingers in their ears and ignore this.
"Buh buh it will pick up in March"

That doesn’t make sense for PS5.

If it was the same prices then it should be 660k - 30%… 462k.

But PS5 in March 2024 was near $110 cheaper than March 2023 plus the DE ($399) split was 40% near double we had in 2023.

It is more like around 550k.

-Its interesting that the best sold Playstation chart is almost 1:1 with the best sold chart in general.
-The xbox most played chart is just normie tier games, which enforces my bias that the xbox console is for kids and normies who know very little about gaming.
-PS5 hardware seems strong considering the state of the economy and its price, but i think it was running a 100 dollars off on most SKUs. Hint Hint Sony
-The same people saying ff7 underperformed are simultaneously saying what a great success DD2 is even though they sold the same despite being on multiple platforms vs just one for the other.

Also Atlus is supposedly leading the way on showing us the benefits of multiplatform release and yet ff7 sits above it.
Weird isn't it? It's like Capcom and Bamco don't even exist.

Even with Twin pack added it won’t be ahead Dragon Dogma 2.

It doesn't need to be just the fact it was as high as it was despite being single platform release against a multiplatform release is proof of that.

NPD again showed the decline of FF franchise… Rebirth is below Dragon Dogma 2 in 2024 and at the bottom of the franchise sales.
That out Rebirth probably at 2 million (maybe 2.5m if they over shipped like FFXVI) shipment at launch that is a disaster for a FF game.

Absolute astroturfing. Funny how NONE of this was a thing just a few months ago but as soon as MS leaves the console business, console are apparently dead, despite the other two selling like crazy. And now they want to convince people that kids are buying $1500 PCs to play games instead of consoles.

Absolute madness.

Matt, I know you're reading these forums. have some self respect and decency and at least admit you have an agenda and we all know where it's coming from. Just pathetic. Imagine selling the entirety of yourself for a few bucks from daddy MS. What's the going rate these days?

With Xbox going down, he really wants to push the narrative that PC is the future. What happened to the healthy market he was touting last year? It all disappeared when Xbox went 3rd-party 🙄

All this gushing about Helldivers 2 PC sales to push Sony even more to PC. The agenda is clear. Kids are playing on tablets, they don't have gaming rigs. Ridiculous.

Console sales down 30%, meanwhile AMD gaming revenue down 46%... it ain't the consoles' fault lmao
I think the consoles are down mostly because they had a big peak last year specially in case of PS from people who wasn't able to get it due to shortages, and around that stage many people were starting to get it being the first months they were easily available.

That, and combined that now all 3 consoles passed their peak hardware sales year, so now should decrease every year as all consoles do in that part of their lifecycle. It's normal, they aren't doomed or something.

These guys try to set some sort of narrative that reality doesnt back up.
In case you didn't get it Daniel was joking to make fun of the fanboys.

Mat is right, in the 90s and 2000s the average age of PC gamer was higher of the console one because kids and teenagers played more in console.

Now the main platform of the kids is mobile, but PC is also becoming very popular among them due to stuff like Minecraft, Roblox, Fortnite or other F2P stuff. The "Nintendo kids" are 30-40 years old.

Nothing new, has been like this for many years.

Circana have a blog but it's Mat that writes it so we can't escape him 😅

His optimism for 2023 all disappeared in 2024. Now it's all doom every week with new tweets and new graphs showing consoles are done for. What happened Mat? 😬

I can't find the monthly data on their website. Basically the only source is Mat's tweets? What a weird company 🤨

Kids have tablets, boomers have rigs, gamers have consoles. Consoles will always be bigger than PC by revenue, especially because we know the latter market is shrinking based on all the stats we've seen.

People don't like what Mat and Daniel writes, so they insult them instead. Classic.
PS5 sold over 500k in March. Do you have any proof Nvidia sold over 500k GPU to gamers in the same timeframe? Or bigger than PS5+Xbox+Switch? If consoles are dying, these cards should trounce everything else.

Why is Mat not comparing that? Cards sold to customers at retail, not AI or whatever.
