Yeah, I wonder how big the gap will continue to increase to.... especially with a new more efficient to make model on the way.

Things could get spicy!

Well the current gap is 1.6:1 compared to PS4/XBO's 1.4:1 time-aligned, going by the Ampere numbers. So slightly larger, even with a much more supply-constrained system.

If PS5 supply weren't trash for several months leading up to around June/July this year, the gap would probably be closer to 2:1 (if not exactly 2:1) by now. At least that's what would seem like, going by the trends.

Everyone knew this would happen when PS supply picked up. At least anyone being honest with themselves. Also the whole "spend" thing is silly. Xbox is third. Just say it. Switch sold more, but XSX costs a good amount more than a regular Switch, and then of course you have Switch Lite, so .... it can sell like 50% of the switch and still be "higher spend." But since Xbox loses money on units, and Nintendo makes money, and on top of that, selling software is what really matters ... Xbox is just getting clobbered.

Improve your offerings Xbox. It's really, really, simple. Don't buy studios and take their games away. Don't run your current studios into the ground. Firing and reshuffling people after 9 years of failure shows that it's the head people that need to go.

NPD in its current form is very much useless. Dollar sales don’t tell you anything of worth. They changed from unit sales to dollar to hide numbers and make everything look like it’s doing well. Xbox being 3rd behind Switch means PS5 numbers must be huge. Xbox consoles can be regularly bought online. Nobody wants them as much as PS5.

I hope there’s some kind of large data leak eventually.

Good point, it is very convenient how things get more and more obfuscated to hide Xbox's poor performance and skim over any downfalls in the industry, any weakness etc.

It's just like reviews used to be precise... everything got a grade... graphics, sound, story, gameplay, polish etc and then you got an overall score...
Then they started saying it is 'subjective' and a reviewer can write anything they want as long as it reflects their experience with the game and now we get unreliable trash reviews, biased crap and fanboys writing reviews like Stevivor.

I think the NPD change from units to numbers is more to hide games sales than MS Xbox numbers... I don't think MS asked that because their sales are not bad in US.

It is 3rd Publishers that forced the changed to hide game sales numbers.
For example I think Activision was one of them... because CoD stopped to sell like it used to be.

PS. Small / Medium publishers have no power to make NPD change... so it was the big ones.

PC Ports were the best initiave sony took in recent years, along with TV’s/movies/anime,mobile and esports.

People don’t understand how underutilized playstation IP has been up until now. Just straight up rotting away on consoles after the initial sales month, so much money being left on the table.

TLOU Part 1 is a good example, if it only came out on ps5, it would be entirely useless as it is now. The sales will taper off super fast and thats it, but now with a pc release and the tv show, and factions it will continue being an evergreen title, very good return on that investment thanks to jim ryan. The entire TLOU Part 1 series from the original, remaster, and remake will easily push past 30m by the end of next year and part 2 might reach 20 m soon after that.

Same with spider-man, it could have stopped selling entirely, but now on pc, along with miles it will easily cross 40 million copies, maybe 50. This new initative is gonna bring sonys 1st party games into that 30m-40m range based on casting a wide net in pop culture, like pokemon and sports games.

People praise nintendo for their big selling games but they’ve been building these IPs for a long time. I also believe that by the end of this console generation sony may possibly have more 10m+ sellers than nintendo even. Maybe even more 20m sellers

Jim ryan and Hulst is growing Playstation into an even bigger global brand, to the behest of the angry playstation fans. You already see them branching out and funding even more games in other regions. Once Bungie and these other studios unveil their multiplayer games its over. No reason to ever leave the PS Ecosystem ever again
