PS5 is a beast
Edit: for everybody complaining about tlou pt1 not needing a remake, it seemed to be doing great despite the PS5's limited install base. Also Horizon still charting despite bundles of the game with the system not being counted towards its software placement.

Just to note NPD doesn't include official bundles in the ranking.
Avoiding the usual HFW is selling due bundles.

Damn really? I don’t believe Mario Kart numbers don’t include the bundles. When I bought mine, it came seperate with the Switch. Same price as a Switch with no game, so obviously got the one with a free game

Official bundles... these ones made by the platform holder where the console box has the picture of the game and all are not counted.
In store bundles... these ones that the Store itself sell combined (they get 2 products and sell them together with a little discount) are counted.

Is Sony going for the 3:1 ratio? The Xbox Dildo... Sorry, streaming stick, can't come soon enough. They can sell it for 50 quid with a full 12 month gamepass and then add it to the "series" sales.

People were saying this was gonna be another PS3 gen for Sony lmao

There are still people that think it won’t catch up to the ps4. They forget Ragnarok isn’t even the biggest system seller, Spider-Man is, and its next gen only

even with the price spike in august/september they still can't keep up with demand! The only thing similar with PS5 and PS3 is that PS5 is close to the price of the PS3 however they are completely different when it comes to sales in both hardware and software!

Ohhhh the price increase that should end PlayStation :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:
To be fair US didn't received a price rise but all Europe is having PS5 selling more after the price rise anyway.

The commemoration of being the best seller next-gen console in the last three NPD quarters even so still being behind PS5 lifetime (that shows the difference was not even big to cover the launch advantage imposed by PS5) was hilarious.

Yeah HFW performance is probably surprising quite a few people who insisted SO HARD to paint it as a failure earlier in the year. They had four Sony 1P games to pick from, knew GT games normally sell very well regardless, thought they had their shot with HFW but that's blown up in their face, have been trying now with TLOU Part 1 Remake despite Sony never placing expectations for it on the level of their other releases this year, and know that any such narrative against GOW Ragnarok will implode before they even have time to try throwing it over the castle wall.

So they're praying TLOU Part 1 bombs so they can get at least a 25% grade. Which is still failing, but they at least want to chart 😂.

Well, assuming MS's own Tweet on install base numbers is true (their PS one is exaggerated a bit though; it should be a bit lower) and Ampere's analysis a couple months ago is accurate, assuming PS5's sold at least as many systems between then and now as MS (likely would have sold more), the ratio difference would be 1.6:1 which is slightly more than the 1.4:1 PS4 had over XBO at a similar point in their lifecycle.

Seeing that PS5 supply will be increasing a ton (at least in Western territories) in time for GOW Ragnarok and the holidays, and MS having said they expect Series shortages to persist into some time 2023, I wouldn't be surprised if the sales gap for PS5 extends to 1.8:1 by the end of the year. 2:1 might be more unlikely but it's not out of reach of possibility, just depends on stock of PS5s.

FWIW I think if supply for Series X in particular were a bit better in Western territories during the same period, Xbox probably could manage to keep the ratio a tad smaller, maybe maintain the 1.6:1 delta assuming they had supply to meet their demand. Scary thing though is, even with what Sony produces for PS5 over the holidays, I don't think that'll be enough to meet PS5 demand in particular and I think, if both systems had supply to meet demand, PS5 would probably be at least 2:1 over Xbox Series by now (and that's also accounting for Xbox Series having better stock, mainly thanks to Series X).

that beaurt dude is on neogaf on the NPD thread completely silent about how doubtful he was after the august 2022 thread on PS5 hitting 1 million this year and now is going with the narrative that TLOU pt1 placement is unimpressive since its about what saints row sold completely missing the fact that this game is on PS5 only and is missing the install base of PS4, XB1, XBS s and x, and PC (for now)
also I couldn't find that edge gif lol so I had to settle with the one I used!

MS created a false sensation of better stocks Sony.
They didn't have better supply at all... TSMC didn't have any new batch of wafers to sell to anybody else.
What MS did was to change their production pipeline of how many wafers they were using to Series X than Series S... so they probably changed from a 30%/70% to 50%/50% or even 70%/30% for S/X... so that way the number of Series S being produced increased a lot in detriment of Series X and gives the sensation of MS getting more wafer supply from TSMC.

But the reality was that overall even with the supply issues Sony was producing more consoles than MS (yes S and X combined)... and the places MS have an advantage US and some months in UK was so small that just a single month with better supply for PS5 changed everything (In UK with one month Sony gone from #3 to #1 for the year).

US was the same thing... PS5 had a lead in 2020 (launch) and in middle of 2021 MS started to sell more for like 4 consecutive quarters that ended in middle 2022... but that sell more for MS was so small in difference that was not enough to overcome the launch gap that Sony made (around 2+ million more units)... so PS5 continued comfortable ahead in sales in US even with Xbox selling more 4 quarters in a row.

So MS didn't gain any ground in US and now PS5 started to pull higher numbers due the better supply... the gap will increase at fast pace now.
Not just that MS reached demand with Series S... so they won't sell what they ship anymore like last year... there is no room to increase sales anymore for them.
While PS5 is now trying to catch demand... and have a lot of room/sales to reach there.

I believe Sony will beat it own conservative forecast of 18.5m for this FY that will put PS5 near 40 million units sold at end of this FY (March 2023).

PS5 will catch and surpass PS4 launch aligned in sales.
Series will fall below 360 in launch aligned sales... we need to see how it will do compared with Xbox One and I don't think it will do way better than it lifetime.
