Both Microsoft and Valve will have 3rd party made consoles next gen (Made by the likes of Asus, MSI etc), as well as being on PC and having handhelds that share the same library

Playstation better understand by that point lol

If they only understand by then, it will be far too late. They need to have understood that by sometime last year, or this year at latest. Basically it needs to be understood and changes put into action before the PS5 Pro releases.

Afterwards, it's just a question of how much damage to the value of their console hardware will be done, not if. And the longer to correct course, the more damage that'd be done in the meantime.

Agreed.
They might realise in a few years unfortunately. PS were a company that can bounce back and adapt like during the PS3. Im not too worried about them but the longer it takes them, the more unnecessary damage it creates

The day Xbox is just a bespoke PC is the day Sony will jump ship and not port to PC.

Well I hope so.

Ha. Not happening. Can’t close the barn doors on the genie now that it’s been squeezed out of the tube.

👇

Sony have done it before.

Have you forgot Psygnosis?

Just hope Microsoft doesn’t ruin your party.

Was just about to bring this up. Them shuttering SOE (EverQuest studio) is another example.

That said, Sony would need to make that change BEFORE Xbox hardware takes that path. Though I personally think that is going to be a good 7-10 years from now (unless MS can get Game Pass on PlayStation & Nintendo platforms before that, at which point it could happen sooner).

The way things are right now, making Xbox a full-on gaming PC hardware line running Windows would lower volume of production too much, meaning constriction of Game Pass growth (if hardware is still the driving factor to that growth), meaning heads are really gonna start rolling at the Xbox division, starting with Phil's.

Since they want to prioritize Game Pass even more than saving Xbox console sales, that will determine hardware ambitions for a good while.

For some time I assumed there had to be a second part of the plan that had not yet been revealed, like using PC infrastructure for their cloud gaming solution, opening their own storefront and using crossbuy to stear people towards PlayStation, offering PS+ on PC, being more aggressive with hardware price or something.

But no, it just seems like a really poorly tough short term play that they pivot to without taking into account all the consequences like reducing demand for PlayStation over time, making PlayStation a lot less attractive by comparison (worse graphics, paid online, paid cloud saves). They don't even bother including Denuvo like most other publishers of AAA single player game, instead they copy Microsoft and act all scared of displeasing PC players while showing the middle fingers to PlayStation players.

Really makes you wonder what Sony Corp shareholders were pushing for this and if those shareholders have large investments in Microsoft too. Maybe even pushing these decisions for PlayStation to "condition" it for a weakening that Microsoft could capitalize on.

We already know (per the leaked emails) that MS tried this with Nintendo through ValueAct. That's probably a reason Nintendo did what they did to their own stocks; to keep those types of parasite from ruining the core of the company's business ethos. I'd be interested to know if ValueAct or similar investors have shares in Sony Corp in part to try that type of nonsense with SIE/PlayStation.

Because that could explain a lot of things this gen.
