Hmmmm. Certain games got updated after the PS4 Pro and PS5 got released. But not sure if Square is good on those kind of things. Its a year old so maybe

Every studio is different.

Look at San Diego Studio who makes MLB The Show. Does it make sense to put out a PS5 Pro updated MLB The Show 24? The PS5 Pro launches November 7th and the World Series is going to be over before then.

It makes more sense to release a PS5 Pro version of MLB The Show 25, especially if it decouples from the PS4, X1, and Switch, but here's the rub, it'll be very telling as far as MLB is concerned. Will they let Sony not publish a Switch version in anticipation of Switch 2? I think what's more likely is that we get yet another year of previous gen, as who knows how soon Sony would get a Switch 2 devkit. They can't be that common because we haven't gotten leaks.

These games come out in March sometimes in April. So it'll be pretty telling based on when the Switch 2 comes out what decision was made and maybe more importantly why.

So back to FF16. Square Enix doesn't have a ton of resources to put towards updating FF16. There should be a build of FF16 without reconstruction techniques since you can switch techniques on PC. My guess is focus and energy was on FF7 Rebirth and if that does well and sees a nice boost in sales, they will revisit FF16.

The bigger missing ones to me are God of War 2018 and Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut and to a degree Uncharted 4 Legacy of Thieves Collection.

God of War 2018 while receiving a PS5 patch, never got a native PS5 release. It still uses checkerboard rendering, despite the PC versions release which utilizes FSR and DLSS.

When you think of Sony, I think you have to think of the Big 7

1. Spider-Man - Every single title is on PS5 and getting ps5 pro updates
2. God of War - only Ragnarok is on ps5 and only Ragnarok has a confirmed pro update
3. Uncharted - uncharted 4 and lost legacy have native ps5 ports but no ps5 pro update
4. Gran Turismo - ps5 pro update
5. The Last of Us - every title is on PS5 and getting pro updates
6. Horizon - every title is on ps5 and getting pro updates
7. Ghost - is on PS5 but no confirmed pro update

If we try to analyze why each game is in what state, we can better understand how these decisions are made.

The biggest head scratcher was God of War 2018 which was ported to PC in January 2022. The port wasn't handled internally, but instead by jetpack interactive. The team was hard at work on Ragnarok and probably Barlog's new game and didn't have resources to put out a native ps5 game. The most comparable thing would be Horizon which also didn't get a native PS5 port, but instead got remastered like Spider-Man.

I think we can probably expect a God of War 2018 remaster based on the other games in the big 7.
