You're kidding right....

It may have went sub hd res during combat but don’t remember. Performance mode was a stuttery mess where panning the camera would cause a slideshow but in combat it would clean up and scale stuff back and most likely res. The problem was they didn’t handle the entire game like this.

Well. People now have no reason to use the "Console is cheaper then PC" argument.
Because there are reasons.

That's insane. It must be shitty optimisation. Surely even a PS5 can do better!?
FF XVI uses a completely new engine that they developed exclusively for the game and the devs have talked little to nothing about it, so it's hard to guess what the problem is.

Regardless, it looks like this new engine was designed with temporal upscaling technologies in mind (just like UE5), so it doesn't really make much sense to claim the engine is bad, or performance is bad in XYZ hardware because of whatever minimum resolution hits in dynamic resolution mode.

For example if it's a very fast scene with lots of motion blur going around, a minimum resolution of 720p is perfectly adequate. It really doesn't matter if you started with a high resolution if 90% of those pixels are getting lost in a blur effect.

Isn't it the FFXIV engine?
There's almost no info about the engine, other than it's not Luminous nor a 3rd party.

It's not the FFXIV engine. Crystal Tools was dropped in favor of Luminous and then Luminous was dropped in favor of this new, nameless engine.

Isn't it the FFXIV engine?

Yes. It’s a cut of the FF14 engine. 14 had an asset and engine upgrade few months shortly after 16’s launch.

It’s not a new engine. That’s like Bethesda claiming starfield is running on a “new engine.” Semantics … newest version is more accurate.
