So was Tekken 7.

Still all tournaments will be played using PS5s
Nope.

We have actual data.

Total sales early 2024: 11.8m
Consoles sales by CESA 2023: 7.3m
PS4 sales alone by CESA 2023: 6.23m

That left PC to be at MAX 4.4m (it will be lower because we are using end of 2023 sales for consoles).

yeah this isn't reliable info, the only official data we got regarding platforms is the closed beta network test. And PS5 had the most.

But I still wouldn't doubt this to be true, fighting games do best on PS at first, but have longer legs on PC. And despite buying EVO, Sony is actively alienating the FGC

After look at the sales charts and Tekken 7 official data I really doubt PC has any chance to be more popular… PC have like 1/3 of sales.

It is a made up article to make PC players feel happy.

Doubt it.

From sales data Tekken 8 when reached the 2 million milestone has around 70% of the sales from consoles.

Now people will say PC is more popular? Seems weird.

Gotta read past the header.
Ranked play* is more active on PC which is where a lot of "serious" players are.

Consoles make has a large chunk of casuals who buy the game to just fuck around and play the campaign for games like Tekken and MK. You also have to pay for online on consoles.

I do think that PC growing in terms of FGC is probably going lead to higher % of LTD for T8.
But PS is still going probably going to be the lead unless SKU unless there's a huge huge drastic changes with the legs of the game compared to T7.

The original source is a reddit analysis in which the main focus isn't really platform but the state of ranked distribution.
Folks do be extrapolating stuff and putting a clickbait title because SEO.
The website is also a PC gaming focused one, so that explains the tone and cherry picking.

Let me understand what are you saying…

They are using the “ranked” leaderboard to extrapolate popularity? And calling it “most popular”?

If the player clear the arcade mode at home then he is not counted as “playing the game”?

If that is what you are saying then it makes sense because you ignore more than half of the people that plays the games… not wanting to say that ranked players are not important but the amount of players that are ranked are really just a very small part of these playing the game.

Same for any other game including big titles like CoD… the ranked players are smaller than non-ranked players… unless the game is ranked multiplayer only.

Yes, the reddit post where they take the data goes into their methology:

Methodology:

The data is gathered by looking at the replays list in the game and sorting by recent. This month's report is based off of 765015 replays gathered between 2024-05-10 and 2024-05-11

The list of players for each character is determined by the highest ranked character recorded for a player. e.g if you have a purple rank Xiaoyu and a red rank Panda only the Xiaoyu is counted

Players are split into beginner, intermediate, and advanced tiers based on their rank.

Beginner to yellow ranks are considered as beginners

Orange through purple ranks are considered as intermediate

Purple and above are considered as advanced players

I wanted to consider only Tekken King and above for advanced but there is not enough data for that at present

For win rates at these ranks only games where both players were in this tier were considered. e.g a game between a Fujin and a Mighty Ruler would not be considered for the advanced win rate chart.

Additionally mirror matches and draws were excluded from win rate calculations.

A one day snapshot.

If the player clear the arcade mode at home then he is not counted as “playing the game”?

Correct. The OG reddit post is really about winrate/ladder distribution in ranked play.
It's data for the ranked fans of the game, people love graphs and shit.

If that is what you are saying then it makes sense because you ignore more than half of the people that plays the games… not wanting to say that ranked players are not important but the amount of players that are ranked are really just a very small part of these playing the game.

While that is true, they're probably the ones that buy all the season passes/costumes/MTX on a greater level than just the casual who plays just a bit.
There's a difference between a user who buys a game for $70 and one dude who spends hundreds of dollars over the lifetime of a game.

Same for any other game including big titles like CoD… the ranked players are smaller than non-ranked players… unless the game is ranked multiplayer only.

There's quick match for Tekken 8 if folks don't want to deal with ladder anxiety, but that places you with pretty much any skill level. I'm fairly sure people who queue up for that are more likely to get absolutely blasted by some high ranked player just looking to shit on scrubs after a bad ladder session :ROFLMAO:

Those stats are fake news with a very small sample. The CCU for Steam is 10k on a weekend.

If that's the highest I feel sorry for them.

Sony hides their CCU, they are afraid of how bad they would look in comparison to Steam.

Fighting games are still more popular on consoles. But PC is now a viable alternative which was unthinkable a decade or 15 years ago. Mainly driven by japanese devs/publishers boneheaded beliefs regarding the platform.

Yes they were more players on OS than PC during the Beta, cause Beta was online Free to play, no PS+ needed.
