I don't know if this is what people call "shitposting" or a deep realization of the human condition.

look at this face:

what do you see? how does it make you feel? positive or negative emotions?

I vaguely remember a dialog about the importance of Icons in MGS4; people need icons that represent ideologies as a foundation for inspiration and guidance in their beliefs and actions. Of course, that's for an individual but also works for the collective.

Usually, when we talk about an iconic person, it's to exemplify an outstanding achievement, perhaps someone who endures difficult times, never gives up, and keeps fighting until success is reached.

....Phil Spencer. Some people absolutely love him, some even see him as THE savior of Xbox; for others, he's considered completely incompetent, the punch line of countless jokes and memes.

We tend to use "Icons" as some kind of beacon or reminder that we can also achieve the best versions of ourselves.

People don't want to be on the losing side but love an underdog story.

Phil Spencer and Xbox Warriors see themselves as the underdogs, constantly fighting against the great and evil force that is PlayStation. But... they don't realize that their lack of success isn't due to the great obstacle in front of them but the heavy weight of past failures behind them....and that is a scary thought.

Phil Spencer represents the failure that exists within all of us, the inability to succeed despite having all the tools at our disposal.

I feel empathy for Phil...

This dude has quite the cult of personality that I've never understood. He draws way too much positive or negative emotions from people than you'd expect a business executive would.

Phil is a real life Michael Scott with more charisma. I refuse to believe that with all the resources at Microsoft's disposal they couldn't find a single person willing to take on that role.
