No Xbox Game Is Off Limits When It Comes To PS5 Ports, Says Phil Spencer

By

Josh Coulson

None of Xbox's exclusives are off-limits when it comes to what might be ported to rival platforms in the future.

Phil Spencer noted that he doesn't see the "red lines" some have drawn around Xbox's flagship titles.

When asked about the potential of the next Halo launching on rival platforms, Spencer said it was too early to comment.

Xbox has proved this year that it is no longer afraid to release its exclusives on rival platforms. Hi-Fi Rush is on PS5, Pentiment is on Nintendo Switch, and Sea Of Thieves is on both. Phil Spencer has now confirmed that those tests of the cross-platform waters have gone well, noting that when it comes to which Xbox exclusives might be next, no games are off limits.

Phil Spencer discussed the future of Xbox in detail during a recent interview with Bloomberg, speaking on the importance of having an open platform when discussing the company's delayed plans for its mobile store. That led the Xbox boss to provide an update on where the company stands when it comes to porting games that would normally remain exclusive to Xbox and PC forever to other platforms.

Spencer said there are no "red lines"around some of Xbox's bigger titles. Imaginary boundaries around series like Halo and Gears Of War that keep them safe when the decision-makers determine which games will be headed to PlayStation next. Some believe we're heading towards a near future where Master Chief appears on a PS5, with the Master Chief Collection feeling like the best, and perhaps most obvious, place to start.

When noting the absence of red lines around any of Xbox's exclusives, Halo was the only series Spencer mentioned by name. While we know there's a new Halo game in development, Spencer noted that it's far too early to even discuss what the launch plans for that title would be. That said, with no red lines holding them back, and Xbox's hardware plans uncertain, we're potentially living on a timeline where the next Halo game releases on Xbox Series X and PS5 simultaneously, or whatever the rival platforms' newest consoles are once the game is ready to launch.

Wow sory theres already a thread can delete

I know, I think I said here that Halo is definitely coming.

But I would actually like Rare Collection and Killer Instinct

You say you're looking forward to Avowed, yet call South of Midnight trash despite that not looking as jank as Avowed.

Yeah, you might have low standards indeed.
Yes Avowed looks like cheap trash.

Gears E-day however I can see going quite well on Playstation. The formula has gotten old and 4 and 5 were a downturn for the series, but it's new on Playstation and there'll be a fair few Playstation gamers who haven't played the series I reckon. Same goes for Forza Horizon. There's already a PS4 version of Psychonauts 2 so they could release a souped-up version of that.

Other than that I don't see much doing well. Starfield won't do much thanks to its reception and the delay, and Shattered Space has further dented its reputation. Ditto for Halo Infinite if they decide to port that. Forza Motorsport is meant to be pretty mediocre compared to previous entries, and would be engulfed by GT7.

Hardly anyone is interested in Age of Empires 4 and MSFS imo. Indiana Jones looks mid, but should fare a bit better.

No surprise here. Said back in February. Everyone should already know and be aware of this by now. Give Sony/Nintendo the games day one for all I care as im not going anywhere. Microsoft gives me way too many benefits and perks that im not going to sacrifice just so I can pay $70 for their games which as of now is around 15. Yeah, I'll stay on Xbox and enjoy my Game Pass Ultimate subscription through July 2027.

When did I call South of Midnight trash? Avowed is a product of Sweet Baby? Good to know, now we can all pass that game up. Thank you!!

You don't even remember your own posts?

I will just avoid trash like South of Midnight, Fairgame$

Right there in plain text. Also, last I checked SBI wasn't involved with Fairgame$. That hasn't been proven, so it's premature to assume such just because of certain characters. That's like seeing Overwatch or Apex Legends for the first time and screaming "SWEET BABY INC!!", when you have zero proof they were involved in the game at all.

I dunno about South of Midnight; they might've been present in some part of that game but all the same, there's always the chance their suggestions have since been thrown out and the game's free of their ideological influence. But you kinda need to see more of the game's writing & story to actually determine such a thing. We need something called "evidence", after all.

Forza Motorsport on PS5 is DOA unless MS significantly improve the game prior to the port. The system is spoiled for great sim racers, king of those being GT7, so Motorsport doesn't have the protection of existing in its own bubble on its own island once it makes the port. Forza Horizon 5, though, should do quite well on the system and I'd assume Switch 2 if they could get a version out for that system.

Flight Sim would be nice to get a port simply to have a game utilizing PSVR2, but it's a bit muted now since PSVR2 is usable on PC. Starfield would need a lot of work to stand out on PS5; maybe a bit less than Forza Motorsport, but not by a large degree. If the port comes after GTA6, it'll probably be DOA unless, again, the game is improved a ton and there's new content. Another reason I say that is because, all things considered, Cory's space game with SSM should be out within the next couple of years. So if Starfield PS5 is too close to that game, it'll get buried under the release hype of SSM's space title.

Yup, put it on context with the rest of my posts that I changed my mind about the game when I found out it was tied to Sweet Baby. I praised the actual game, game play and characters prior to this. I don't like the idea of this whole Sweet Baby thing after I found out about it and the way the community manager they hired promotes her own racist thoughts.

I mentioned Fairgame$ because from what I understand it is going to be heavy on the GaaS side. I love the Helldivers 2 way of doing it.

People care way too much about Sweet Baby Inc., that crazed woman leading the company and all of this other shit. Spider Man 2 had some cringe in it yet was still an excellent 9.0/10 for me. 30 minutes of cringe out of almost 50 hours isn't going to change a damn thing. Other Sony games are using Sweet Baby Inc. including all of Insomniac. Their games will still be awesome. It's only when the game goes to the extreme like that Dustborn game is when the game will suck. A minimal minor influence on some shit isn't going to do anything especially when the main company (Sony/Microsoft) is spending a shit ton of cash on these games and want their money back post release.

South of Midnight looks fucking great and thankfully, isn't a massive bloated open world game. Reminds me of Kena in a lot of ways and that game is fucking great. Best of all, that stop motion aspect can be turned off during gameplay which is all I was hoping for after seeing gameplay this past June.
