The flip flopping when it comes to Starfield is insane to me. Before this game came out it was heralded as the second coming of gaming. Now that people are pushing back it’s all about Xbox tax, media bias, console warring etc. Like folks are really struggling to accept that the game is mid or at the very least fell far short of the generation defining game they hyped it up to be.

Generally I don’t care too much and just laugh it off but the gaslighting by fans of this game as if the pre-release hype and build up was some made event kinda annoys me lol

Also, 12m player count is a bullshit PR number that means absolutely sweet bugger all.

Hhahaha. Look at this posts on installbase. Pure console warring and Xbox tax is real :

To be fair people there directly called him ou on his conspiracy theories.

Believing in bias when the media give better scores than for example Steam user reviews or own MS store reviews is really weird.

The game is just not the flagship that was promised.

I think we all know that to certain people a game's quality is irrelevant - only thing that matters is who made it and who owns them. Anyone, especially seeing the direction Bethesda has been going in over the years, could have predicted Starfield would be mediocre. Some people were relying on the Bethesda name and former successes, some had pure hopium that the makers of Fallout 76 would somehow come out with a quality game, and some just really wanted MS to finally have games that deserve to be awarded.

For the ones crying about its critical and customer reception, they're just warriors. I wouldn't be surprised if people like that barely game at all. Not enough time in the day for that and warring on Twitter.

That player count is the closest thing they have to a bragging point for that game, and even that is a pathetic letdown from what the hype for the game would have suggested when it comes to how many people bought/downloaded/stole a copy.

This is BAD. Should’ve done 20 million by now. Gamepass’d to failure. Starfield not moving new subs is indeed the nail in the coffin for the Series SuX era of consoles. They blew their load and had to buy Activision to rely on call of duty money made on PlayStation. LOLs. What a disaster.

Edit: Halo Infinite claimed 20 million player metric in half this time. Yes, that was mostly in reference for f2p pvp and not gamepass but I’m sure that difference didn’t matter to the xbots when it was announced.

A Bethesda rpg “had” the potential to exceed Cyberpunk numbers. Both Cyberpunk and Witcher 3 build upon genres Bethesda helped make mass market with Skyrim and Fallout.

With that said, before Bethesda’s purchase, if Starfield was still a multi platform release, you’re looking at 20 million SOLD in less than 2 years at full retail price of $70.

To even meet those numbers you would need all 25 million gamepass subscribers (clearly a fake number — it’s probably like 15 million at most) in addition to bringing in another 25 million in new subs. Why? Because it’s a 12 dollar a month sub spread across 700 games being licensed out.

There’s some reset thread saying gamepass makes like 500 million in profit per year. Lol that doesn’t even cover either halo or Starfield’s dev and marketing costs…. And of course these assumptions are fake. Gamepass doesn’t make any money … it cannot fund AAA development no matter what gymnastics you use to claim such. They don’t have the subs. They don’t have the consoles. End of story.

Please tell me how gamepass isn’t destroying studios and revenues. It’s not pro consumer… it’s anti-dev. These people have no idea they’re cheering for the destruction of their favorite studios.

So the 12 million players include all the 25 million gamepass subscribers that can just download and try the game at no additional cost?

25 million active subscribers my balls. And to bs their way to that metric that probably includes all the one month freebies that come with Mountain Dew and Doritos.

What a disaster 🤣

Not exactly all of them from GP. You can bet that game has sold around 2 million copies at least. Early Access wasn't on Gamepass and back then before official launch game had 2 million players. As it is mentioned, game received spike in subs on GP, but looks like it stagnated significantly just after 2 months. Just 1 million players more since Oct. 25.

Where it’s at.

Holy fucking shit.

I am just in absolute shock, and laughing at the same time.

What a huge "Fuck you" to their corporate overlords for Bethesda to be giving away PlayStation stuff instead of Xbox. They must REALLY be pissed about how things have gone for them since the purchase. Poor sales, high-level dev defections in studios they own and public mockery are what they have faced since the buyout.

Soooooo - if there are 23MM Gampass subscribers including XBOX and PC, who are all paying to rent games, only roughly half could even be bothered to download Starfield? And that took 3 months to reach?

Yeeeeouch.
