It’s almost as if MS is pissing money away by paying for ports of Japanese games to Xbox, isn’t it?
You just wait, I was told that Game pass improves sales.
Oh that's dire. How in the world can anyone believe game pass is sustainable? You pay devs up front, recover next to nothing because it drives very few new subscribers, and your competitor's coffers get bigger and bigger as all sales are happening elsewhere.
But did you buy with empty energy drink cans, chip bags, condom wrappers and toilet paper tubes like how most people pay for Game Pass?
Monster Hunter and Persona 5 were in the top 50 when they came out but Wo Long? Now that's a shock. Day 1 full-price release with Xbox marketing and Wo Long-themed series S and it's selling 96% on Playstation and not played on GP.
Awful for Tecmo but that company is dumb. Making Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive xbox exclusives. They deserve to flop.
The exclusivity of DOA and Ninja Gaiden were the result of Itagaki throwing a temper tantrum and refusing to work on anything for PS2 because Tecmo rushed the Japanese release of DOA 2 and he was embarrassed by the reviews attacking issues that he was working on fixing, and which were fixed for the American DOA 2: Hardcore release.
Yes, Tecmo let one asshole developer dictate exclusivity of TWO franchises to them.
No wonder they had to merge with KOEI to survive.
For an IP that low-profile, it’s actually quite impressive.
No mainstream marketing, an unproven IP and released in a low-tide time for retail is not the conditions for a new property to hit #1, especially with what has taken the chart positions above it.
there was like 0 marketing for this game from xbox. it is pity that game getting handicapped by this turd.
we can give sony heat over overmarketing but at least they do it to sell games on their platform and give healthy numbers to publisher-developers.
xbox just don't give a shit, or they are doing it on purpose, to tank games that only good decision would be go on gamepass.
Its very obvious why JPN doesn't sweat Xbox. Day 1 gamepass isn't as much as a selling point as some fans think it is.
