PlayStation's co-CEO situation seems to be going really well

I was a bit skeptical of Totoki's decision to name co-CEOs as I've worked in companies that have done co-CEOs and I've seen that in most cases it doesn't work well.

That being said, it seems to be working really well so far. Only caveat being that obviously things are in early days, but I feel like Sony has an urgency and direction that they didn't necessarily have in recent years.

It's been less than a year since they were named co-CEOs and less than half a year since they've officially been in the roles, but it's clear that the new found powers that they have respectively has allowed them to advance their business groups.

Hulst - The attempt at purchasing Kadokawa will almost certainly have been driven by SIE, regardless of people's agenda against the man himself or the idea that he was somehow anti-Japan. To steal a meme, this is a career defining move for Herrmen. The purchases of Bluepoint and Nixxes which he would have been involved in I think play a large part in the strategy around acquiring FromSoftware via Kadokawa.

Under Hermen's leadership, Sony has a decent chance at winning GOTY with Astro Bot and delivered one of their best selling games of all time in Helldivers 2.

Nishino - From the PS Portal getting a cloud beta right before the holidays, I think is a prime example of Nishino's leadership. I think Jim Ryan would have waited until the product was ready to go, but Nishino I think understands the playerbase and the technology a little bit more. As a result we're seeing the PS Portal selling tremendously on Amazon and it's currently available by invitation only on Amazon Japan.

Sony is likely going to have a record quarter due to the launch of the PS5 Pro, the anniversary edition PlayStation lineup, the disc drive, vertical stand for the Pro, and now the PS Portal combined with this discounted PS+ cloud pricing for new users. That's going to look really good for Nishino.

I think the two of them are positioned to drive their business groups but also compete with one another. Right now I think Nishino has a clear lead, but that's also a good thing. It means that the Studio Business group needs to do more to impress. Hulst might get the nod if Sony is able to close out a deal with Kadokawa. I think everyone is focused on Sony competing with Microsoft, they've overlooked that Sony now essentially has two PlayStation divisions that will probably compete with each other to what is hopefully/ultimately the benefit of consumers.

It going well because Totoki and Nishino are taking the lead. Hermen Hulst is as incompetent as Jim Ryan was. Firewalk close to $500M flop. Who the hell buys a studio for $250 without them ever having shipped a single game before. Hermen's days are numbered. I give max 2 years until he forced to resign from his position.

They haven't been there for a while, but it makes sense to seperate the "platform" and the "game making" sides of the business.

I think it's too early to take any decisions.

But well, they already were doing a top tier job before being co-CEOs and now they continue having more or less almost the same tasks, so I assume they'll continue doing a great job. Maybe even better because now they won't have a SIE CEO on top of them, so will have more freedom.

I mean, in Hermen's side since he's CEO they released Stellar Blade, Destiny 2 The Final Shape, GoWR PC, Concord, Astro Bot, Until Dawn, Horizon Remaster, Lego Horizon and now seems they'll acquire FromSoft and Acquire, which I think it's a great job but most of it comes from when he had Jim as CEO everything was mostly signed and done except the Kadokawa thing that comes from a 30 years old relationship. I think we'll take years before seeing something started from scratch with Hermen as CEO because these things take years.

Same goes for Nishino: the 30th anniversary products are great, and it's also great to see game streaming in PS Portal, but all this was already done and signed with Jim Ryan. So again, I think we'll have to wait several years to see meaningful changes or additions made by Nishino without having Ryan above him. I mean, pretty likely Sony's portable/PC handheld and PS6 early specs and strategy were already set under Jim Ryan.

@Mods I suggested this before but it needs to be said again.

Can we just merge this user's propaganda threads into a single Sony shilling thread where they can put this kind of stuff at will?

I mean at least that way we can ignore just one thread.
A better suggestion could be to tell you to stop trolling in these threads and just ignore them if you don't like them.

Maybe even also to invite you to leave the forums and go to resetera or something like that, where you may find more threads of your taste, if ignoring these threads isn't enough for you.

Is that you having an hard time ignoring threads/posts you don't like and proposing to move them to a single thread?

I think you posted in the wrong thread, the "Doomers and Gloomers, Sony is dying" thread is this other one.

Pure bullshit, this OP deserves to be instead in the "doom and gloom" thread instead of creating another thread.

Why don't you use the "Sony doom and gloom" or any of the other "Concord is doomed" threads?

Things like getting rid of the doomer shitposting that derails every single Sony thread at Iconera.

The OP is just another periodical doom and gloom thread about a topic that has been spammed many times. You can go to check it in the 1209374027 other threads where we talked about it.

Don't quote me for nonsensical things that deserve to be in the doomers thread.
