Now that there's seemingly going to be a Horizon Zero Dawn remake coming, we should beg the question. Will there be a remake for every PlayStation movie or show they have coming out?

My view on this is that if it's relatively low cost and we're still getting new games/IPs then I will make my purchase decision on a game to game basis. I bought the TLOU remake but I'm not buying the Horizon Zero Dawn remake

We know they have many new IPs in development and next year is looking 🔥 already with FF16, Spider-man 2, Stellar Blade, Forspoken and probably Factions 2

Thoughts?

Yeah, I mean... it doesn't hurt me for these games to be remade / remastered.

The issue is that the resources could be used for something else, much like the stupid PC ports and it shows the focus is on how they can make easy money rather than really making PlayStation THE place that gamers need to be.

I want PlayStation to be THE place that every gamer needs to be.

I'm very excited for Wolverine, SM2, FFXVI, FFVIIR, Stellar Blade, Rise of the Ronin etc...... so I think I'll be good anyway. Oh Destiny Lightfall too....

Agreed! And I think these remakes are also being used to buy them time so that they can really blow us away with the games they have in the pipeline

Yeah, it's funny how one remake can make us lose faith lol but they do need to go back to the PS4 playbook and start showing their roadmap of games

Its like a balance….you gotta mix good in with the bad, and right now they aren’t replacing a lot of the bad with good. They need to refill the coffers of hype.

People have been wanting to know whats coming next year and we don’t have dates on anything or even updates. FF16 is “summer” which could damn well be september, spider-man 2 is a no show this year, no factions, wolverine is just an idea for us, still no date or price on PSVR2, little devil inside vanished…. What are sonys 13 OTHER studios even working on right now?

It’s annoying to get nothing but PC Port announcements all year

Sony forgot their main player base is still on consoles, not netflix and not pc

Going to say yes to the original question.

Hasn't a Days Gone movie been confirmed? If so, great, we'll get a remaster and both will end on a cliffhanger but yet, I can't get what was my most anticipated sequel for this generation - Days Gone 2!!! Come on Jimbo!!!!

I second some of the things you're saying but I'm not as down on them. I think the last 2 State of Plays were great especially the last one and I'm loving the games they've released these past few years

I’m not down on them either but i can understand peoples frustration with their lack of communication.

They are doing the bare minimum with keeping us engaged in the platform. Like the PS Stars thing, why are they advertising that as a trophy collection thing and not a points earning thing to buy games? It’s just really weird.

They just lack consistency and they feel like they don’t have to ever be straight with us. Like they announced the ps plus premium and extra games at the beginning of last month, now they are back to waiting until mid month. We have no clue what their legacy library release cadence even is.

Last two years they have had big showcases in september, now they may go the rest of the year without one and no word or concern for their loyal fans.

They need to fire whoever thought this way of marketing was suitable

Yeah the communication has been pretty bad. At least give us the dates of the shows so we're not left in the dark, it keeps the hype and momentum up

Shit, i dont even need exact dates, just tell us SEPTEMBER, is when our annual shows will be from now on, shit even FALL. As long as i know something is coming its whatever.

Never knowing what to expect as a fan and someone who’s invested thousands of dollars into the eco system is wack af. Maybe if their release cadence was as consistent as Nintendos I wouldn’t mind them copying their silent treatment strategy, but thats not the case.

Sony still isn’t releasing major games a few months after announcement, outside of remakes or remasters. I feel like every game Nintendo released this year was announced this year.

Remember that the remakes/remasters isn't primarily for existing fans. It is for the new fans that the films/tv shows will bring. And Sony wants them to (1) buy PS5s, not PS4s, and (2) get introduced to the best possible version of the game and have a fantastic first impression.

Regarding the PlayStation Showcase, yes, it is time. Sony should show their next batch of mid-gen games.

Having said that, I'm not worried at all. Did PlayStation ever disappoint when it comes to high-quality games? Games are literally the last thing I worry about when it comes to PlayStation. I have utmost confidence that they will continue to deliver even if they don't show us much.

The lack of competition from Xbox has also made Sony complacent when it comes to games. If Starfield, Forza, Hellblade 2, Avowed, etc. were releasing this year and Xbox had a fantastic E3 Showcase, we'd have already got PlayStation Showcase 2022.

That's a great point that a lot of people forget, myself included

And yeah, I'm not worried. This has been the best start to a new generation PlayStation console and I'm very grateful

We have to remember that the supposed HZD remake is only a rumor coming from a random unknown website with no reliable source. And only when it got viral then other 'insiders' jumped to that ship, so probably they are lying when saying they knew about this. So I wouldn't consider it confirmed.

In case it would be true, I don't believe they are making a full remake. I think it would only a PS5 sku of the normal game adding the base PS5 features copypasted from HFW and some extra copypasted from the PC version.

Regarding their strategy, I think that they will release of a brand new entry game, remaster, remake, etc. close to the movie or tv show if they consider that more or less matches their roadmap of game development. If not, they won't. I think it's a good idea that if they do a big event that will bring them many fans for that IP, to have fresh products and the best versions of that IP ready for people. They did it with Uncharted and TLOU, let's see if they really repeat it with more IPs.

Same goes with releasing a late PC port of a game just before releasing a PS only sequel of that game: it's a good idea in terms of marketing, and if it matches their game development roadmap they'll keep doing it, because a tiny part of the people who discovered the IP would buy a PS5 to play the sequel.
