PS2 sold 21.4 million units total.

I'd love to see PS5 hit over 15 million, ideally around 16. That would be a strong message.

Anything over 12 would be great though
A single game can change the trajectory, I'm hoping ff7rebirth will be one of those games that just blows up

It definitely could and I hope it does.

I am just wondering about other elements...like Persona being on Xbox now and the muddied messaging along with Switch getting more ports etc. and Switch 2 coming.

There may be a serious need for Sony to buy Japanese pubs to fuel sales.

Where it’s at.
Can people now stop saying home consoles are dead in Japan?

It's time for Sony to invest in acquiring some developers or publisher in Japan and add exclusives permanently.
Remember, the narrative has shifted from "Home consoles are dead in Japan" to "Home consoles can sell, but nobody buys software for them in Japan", as though digital isn't a thing over there.

They're only dead to the green team.

Japanese people are well know for their aversion to technology, it's still Ninjas V.S. Samurai over there!
It's mostly Nintendo fanboyism, as the charts in Japan are usually dominated by Swich games, but overlooking the fact that Nintendo's digital purchasing still hasn't caught up to where everyone else was 15 years ago.

Nintendo's user base is split between those who don't even know digital is a thing, and people who know it is, but also know Nintendo does it in an utterly shit way and avoid that by buying physical.

Makes sense between XVI and VII remake part 2. Those titles are still big in Japan. Besides a PS5 would be good value for costumers that didnt have a PS4, since it wasn't an exceptionally popular console in japan.

A slim revision should help to sell more.

The Persona deal is advertising only, right, not even timed exclusivity? If so, I doubt anyone will care.

Just the fact that they barely put any storage inside the console discourages it. Also, their lack of high performance storage upgrade options (sd cards don't cut it).

This is as if they liked to sell shiny toys in boxes (which I think they do).
