"We’re looking for a dynamic, skilled, and highly motivated Manager to join the PlayStation services team that runs PlayStation Plus – the world’s largest game subscription service with over 45M subscribers. This is a unique opportunity to work in a high-functioning team that drives significant impact for players, our partners, and PlayStation, in a fun, fast-paced environment"

March 2023 it was 47 million so should be over 47 million.

First launched in 2010, PlayStation Plus is Sony’s subscription service which allows PlayStation users to play online multiplayer. As of March 2023, the service had over 47.4 million subscribers, a decrease from its peak of 48 million subscriptions in December 2021

March 2023 it was 47 million so the 45 million I think is incorrect

could have been 2 million people unsubscribed due to the price hikes. Also that job listing is fake news bc Apple Arcade is over 100mil, it's by far the biggest game sub

Should be higher but they aren't thinking right. Some markets should have specific tiers for online only.

Exactly, they could have been pushing for growth and cater to specific markets to really grow globally but they doubled down on this "one size fits all" strategy.

Money over growth, they put even a few million dollars over the longterm growth of PS5 sales.... it's so shortsighted.

If there was one word to sum up this gen of PS management, it would be "shortsighted".

Other words "Unfriendly", "Greedy", "Misguided", "Unfocused".

Service is the future but yet that future is so full of thorns if not handled properly it's becomes real bad
Gaas games walk on a fine line
How are services the future? What basis does that have in reality? There's only 1 big gaming service and it's GamePass which isn't even profitable after 7+ years. Every other non gaming service is constantly raising prices, offering less, and forcing ads on customers. So no, services aren't the future.

It says OVER 45M and 47M is over 45M, so it's correct. And yes, we knew for years that it has over 45M subs and is the biggest game subscription (on consoles).

sad to see Sony still going in this service direction
It exists since 2010 and gives Sony a shit ton of revenue and is profitable. They won't get rid of it.

I thought he meant services, as in subscription services; not gaas/live service games.

PlayStation Plus has been around for a while. Over 13 years, to be exact. In all this time, the popular subscription service has gained over 47.7 million users. On the other hand, Xbox Game Pass made its way into the industry back in 2017, and as of April 2022, 21.9 million were for Game Pass (excluding PC). These numbers have been speculated according to GamesIndustry.

According to new estimates from the company Omdia, known for its market analysis, PlayStation Plus currently has more subscribers than Xbox Game Pass.:

"We believe that almost half of Xbox Game Pass subscribers will be on the Ultimate tier by the end of 2023This is in stark contrast to PS Plus, where we estimate around two-thirds will be on the cheapest tier, Essential."

Furthermore, Omdia's George Jijiashvili comments that the role of subscriptions as a primary business model for a gaming platform is yet to be proven.

Omdia misses something important: there are many people in GPU who migrated their years of Gold months to GPU for $1, so pretty likely this why GP has many GPU users.

Also, half of the 25M GP users is 12.5M in GPU. And a third of the PS+ 47.7M subs in Extra and Premium/Deluxe is 15.9M.

Game subs are a small portion of the total game revenue, which generates over $200B/year. According to Omdia game subs generate $16B/year and are spected to exceed $22B/year in 2027.

PS+ is twice as big as GP, and unlike GP it's profitable because Sony doesn't spend billions per year to sign 3rd party games that would be there day one plus putting all their own games there day one. As I remember PS+ generates around $4B/year with subs (not counting dlcs).

In addition to this in mobile there's Apple Arcade and Google Play Pass, which may be larger than PS+.

Can't agree more.

If they did regional prices they would absolutely dominate gaming on Latin America. We ALL grew playing Playstation here, to the point that we don't say "play videogames" we literally say "Lets play with the Playstation" but the last couple of years everyone went into pc gaming because of regional prices. You can't charge $70 dollars for a game in countries that earn 200 to 400 dollars a month.
Xbox and Steam charges 25 dollars for the Legendary Edition of Hot Wheels Unleashed 2, you know how much Playstation charges? 90.

They have the brand, they have the best hardware, amazing games and buying a gaming pc is more expensive than ever. They can mantain the price of the Playstation 5, if they just adjust the game prices everyone would change platform.
