Capcom has no need, no interest and no potential of being purchased. They're on fire right now.

P.S. Sony couldn't afford them.
Sony can afford any company they want to, they have credit so they can get it and buy a publisher if they feel like, this is pure BS.
The thing is: Sony doesn’t need to buy a publisher because they already have a massive catalog of games and more coming.

It's brutal when you think at how easy it was for Sony to answer Gamepass, all while compromising very little in what works for them, nto mention that Sony is still slacking a lot in the premium tiers and they have this huge disadvantage of no native PS3 games running on PS5.

For people that are all in into service it's ridiculous how much better a PS5 DE/PS+ Extra combo is compared to the Series S/Gamepass.

Now MS has spent all those billions to find themselves in the exact same place they were before, no games coming out, struggling to get games out of the door. They already over committed with games coming out day one on the service so it's going to be hard for them to pivot from that and people are going to expect all Activision and Blizzard games on the service as well.

So as it is Sony has more service subscribers, a much better catalogue of games to feed their service, first party games actually coming out and doing great, third-party games selling much better on PS. What is really helping MS right now and making them look somewhat good is that Sony can't produce all the PS5s necessary to supply the market.

I still think Jim Ryan sucks, but damn it if Phil doesn't suck even more.

The quality and/or number of games will eventually dip. Great ammo for now tho as there are plenty of third party games of quality to poach to establish good word of mouth for the first full year.
Well that is the whole subscription business model, you lute people in and then you just do enough for them to just not cancel.

I mean, just look at Gamepass, they got their reputation with empty promises and a few big third-party game early on then it quickly turned into what it is today.

Damn, we were getting day one indies on PS+ IGC already (Resogun, Fall Guys, Rocket League, etc) and no one was going crazy saying it was the best deal in gaming, Epic has being giving free games every week on PC (plenty of good indies in there as well) while getting little praise, yet this month we had people trying to spin how getting Peppa Pig and Paw Patrol on Gamepass was actually something positive.

Sony got themselves in this position because they grew and fostered their ecossystem with PS Plus. Transitioning to a subscription model was now a breeze

Absolutely. I never got the "Series S" is good value for the money when it cost 100 quid less than the PS4 DE and it's way underpowered. With PS Plus added to the mix I wouldn't consider the former as an option, even if I was just playing third party games.

Agreed

Ultimately this will do exactly what Sony intended. It will dilute the mindshare of gamepass.

They were letting Microsoft/Phil get away with murder all of last year with the nonstop free gamepass marketing drops. It was the strongest feature on xbox and now sony took a bit of wind out of its sales.

It pretty much forces microsoft and its die-hard fans to shut up about gamepass until actual big first party or 3rd party games drop on it.

Personally I'm still waiting for good emulation of PS3 games

Is there a reason for this? Genuine question. Like, If I want to play PS3 games, I'll get a used one and play them.
Would it be because they would load faster? I can get behind that, tbh.

not only that, but having only one machine and being able to play the games with Dualsense and vibration support. Also the OS is better on ps5.
I have the ps3 hooked up to the TV but I don't like using it.

Oh I'm talking about subscribing to the service it has plenty of PS3 games but I'm not the biggest fan of streaming especially when you're streaming games that were only 720p and had input lag already. I would much rather see these games given minor upgrades or something like PC emulation will see

Yeah, I got that you would not be mentioning streaming but rather native compatibility.

Capcom better.
Yes.

With Capcom they'd control Survival Horror, Hack & Slash, fighting game eSports, monster hunting genres and would have a key catalog of classic console & arcade games. In addition to secure key content for their console and game sub, they would also earn more market share in PC and mobile and would get several game IPs already successful in movies, anime & tv shows.

If they have to choose a single acquisition, I think Capcom is the one that would put Sony 1st party a market leader/key position in more genres/niches.

Capcom has no need, no interest and no potential of being purchased. They're on fire right now.

Sony can perfectly afford to buy Capcom, in fact has enough investments and acquisitions budget to buy Capcom and 3 companies more of the same size this fiscal year. And if desired they could spend way more, they have plenty of cash. And if needed, can get debt and both they and their main investors have banks.

Regarding Capcom, Sony pretty likely would help them to continue publishing multiplatform as they will do with Bungie but being with Sony they'd have more budget for games, they'd help them grow in manpower, they'd help them more in marketing, they'd help them with movies/anime/tv shows, would give them top tier support in any area they'd need, etc.

The only difference for Capcom would be pretty likely that instead of getting moneyhats from Nintendo and MS to put games in their game subs or to give the marketing deals or bungles they'd have them with Sony instead. And there wouldn't be any kind of game exclusives for Nintendo or MS. There wouldn't be future console exclusives for Switch, these games would also be released day one on PS.

PS Now/ PS cloud gaming supports 1080p for PS3 & PS4 games that use that resolution. The games that are streamed at 720p are the 720p/sub 720p games. Unlike PC emulation, who suffers many bugs, crashes and compatibility issues these streamed games run perfectly and exactly like in the original console because they are running on native PS3 hardware in the servers.

Regarding input lag, I play wired (no wifi) and with a good fiber connection (1 gig and modern wifi6 capable router) and have no noticiable input lag or visual artifacts as I had in the past. Pretty likely they improved their tech and added some extra server closer to my home.
