COD down 38% 😬

Portal is number 5 and sold out 😁

PS5 delivers big month for the console market

Moving over to GfK data, over 486,000 games consoles (panel data) was sold in the UK during November, a sharp rise of 176% month-on-month, and up 32% over November last year.
This was due to heavy discounting around Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo consoles over the Black Friday period. It was really the first Black Friday where PlayStation 5 was able to participate (the console was almost entirely sold out during this period in 2022, 2021 and 2020).

Sony's machine accounted for practically half of the games consoles sold during November. PS5 sales were up 149% month-on-month, and up 126% over last November.

In second place for the month was Xbox Series S and X, which saw a hefty 231% sales jump month-on-month, again due to Black Friday discounting. Compared with November 2022, Xbox sales are up 4%.

Nintendo Switch took third spot, with sales up 175% month-on-month but down 19% over the same period last year.

Year-to-date, console sales are up 12% over the year before, driven by improved sales for PS5.

Elsewhere, 1.275 million peripherals and accessories were sold in the UK across November (GfK panel data), which is a rise of 118% over October but down 3.5% over last November.
From IB:

I need @Welfare to explain how Xbox with “shortages” did just as well (bad) as Xbox with plentiful supply 🤔

2023 - more supply, cheaper consoles, and Starfield/Forza

2022 - “shortage”, full priced, and Pentiment

Xbox is on life support
+4% given these factors is horrible

It's the year 2035. PS7 is outselling the Nintendo SoloDuo and Apple GameProMax. Xbox is long gone, having dragged down the remnants of its acquired studios into the abyss.

Resetera and Welfare still can't admit Sony's the best at this kind of thing.

Resetera and Welfare still can't admit that Xbox is not in the market anymore, citing supply shortages as to why consumers can't find an Xbox in store shelves.

If my memory serves right Xbox had "shortage" of supply last year. This year stock was plentiful, yet only sold 4% more despite discounts. @Welfare please explain

From what it looks like, Sony owns HALF the entire console market right now. Thats pre ps5 pro, pre GTA, pre sucker punch, pre naughty dog. Then you have switch 2 coming, xbox cannot compete with either of them lmao.

COD being down 38%, if you assume this trend continues throughout its lifecycle and is consistent globally, means MW2 would have to have sold 24.2m (24.2 * 0.62 = ~15m) copies to not be outsold by God of War Ragnarok (15m) within a year.

"Equally laughable"

I only speak to the US market about shortages since it's where I live. I think it's been mentioned by others that Series X supply was low in the UK up to last holiday.

Just a quick look, this article on December 13, 2022 shows that Series X was coming back in stock around or before that time https://www.independent.co.uk/extra...consoles/xbox-series-x-stock-uk-b2099668.html

One thing I wish was mentioned is the S and X splits. Something I've noticed all year in the US is that Series S demand is awful, with Series X far outperforming it. The S is also doing far worse in 2023 than 2022, pre November. UK Xbox could be a case where Series X is higher than 2022 but Series S is down, bring the overall number lower.

They need to discontinue the S but rumor is they already paid AMD for the wafers so it would be a write-off. Just take the hit I say.

I think there may be too many Series S consoles out there for MS to just drop support for the platform halfway through the gen; would piss people off and potentially get them in trouble. Also, who know if MS will do a mid gen refresh. It would be a lot to ask devs to support 3 Xbox versions with different specs at the same time given its install base.
