PS5 pro could be the best place to play multiplatform games with bad PC ports

Which is pretty much a-a-all of them given the stuttering.

Digital Foundry sounded the surrender horn this week, with John doing total about-face from his original querying of whether the pro was even necessary.

Digital Foundry commented on the soon-to-be-released mid-generation refresh hardware from Sony, highlighting how the system could be a sort of "nuclear option" to enjoy multiplatform games with bad PC ports thanks to the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution upscaler which will likely be used over AMD FSR in the vast majority of games, as performance concerns could be the only reason developers may continue to go for AMD's upscaler over the AI-powered one making its debut with the PlayStation 5 Pro in certain scenarios, such as for 120 Hz modes. Considering how games with PSO stutters on PC already tend to run smoother on consoles, playing multiplatform games whose PC ports suffer from this issue on the PlayStation 5 Pro could be the way to go, especially if performance holds up, as it seems more and more like PSSR will be able to deliver great image quality in the vast majority of games.

Bonus summary from Neogaf on the DF video
- John about Final Fantasy VII Rebirth: I famously tweeted about it being a huge leap, and it was actually even larger than I anticipated. It genuinely is game changing.

- GT7 better in person than first impressions, replays with RT from 30fps, and in some instances below, to full 60fps.

- PS5 Pro unit in person looks better than base model.

- Alex Battaglia agrees PS5 Pro would provide the best place to play games with PC ports suffering from stuttering issues, "But it is expensive".

Goes on to say, about those PC ports: It would be great if there was more audience anger.

And in response to John saying: "We don't need more anger today, Alex", he adds: Consumers could make it really well known that is not acceptable to release PC games the way that they are released.

How does this even make sense from him, compared to what, a PC that costs literally 500 pounds more to play the thing at the same settings?

He has to take a dig at Sony, but in particular he doesn't think consoles should be in that price range, but it's a defensive mechanism for encroachment into PC.

The comparisons with PC games for the next few years is going to be really tough and they'll struggle to justify doing comparisons with 50 series GPUs that no one is going to buy. The biggest bet is for some price reduction among 40 series GPUs, but regardless of price reduction, it won't keep pace with the PS5 Pro.

I've taken issue with people describing the PS5 Pro as "expensive." It's all relative. It's not a pack of gum, but it's considerably cheaper than a 4070 based PC. It's not considerably more expensive than a PS5.

If people can recognize the value of an XSX over an XSS they can recognize the value of a PS5 Pro over a PS5.

The price is ok for what it offers. You basically get a AMD 7700/7800XT with a Nvidia feature set.

£700 (plus PSN) is expensive. A PC that is less expensive can run these games but it won't look as good as the more expensive PS5PRO.

Options and nuance.

Interestingly, DF are saying PC ports (released soon after the PS5 launch) are bad for Sony, which all but the most insane posters can agree on.
Will those insane posters retract their views now, or argue with DF?

Let's not do premature victory dances. wait until the console is actually playable by us.

For now, we have John from DF who played the console in japan and has emerged from his bunker. We are all elated to know that he is still doing okay.

DF's main person for the PS5 Pro analysis has, until now, been Oliver, known as the lover and connoisseur of everything PlayStation.

John take on the PS5 Pro.

The way he repeatedly mistakenly says "PS4" is slightly irritating.

Alex’s face during some of these positive PS5 Pro talks is embarrassing. Video game nerds are shameful, bias turd

I have absolutely no doubt, I have massive faith in the console model and a market for a high end version, such as the Pro.

I just wish Sony had as much faith and backed their consoles 100% like they used to.

The PS5 pro, has been difficult process for them. It has been wild rollercoaster, we went from "There is no need, the industry can't support it neither do customers" to "The thing since sliced bread". The ps5 pro wouldn't even do 40 fps in some games, according to them.

We should all give them the time to need heal their emotional damage it has caused.

As always Mark Cerny has bested them once again.

Sounds good to me... And this made me look even more forward to it as well as the PS6/PS6 Pro etc. (y)
