Sony hasn't advertised this setting much and they haven't explained it at all.

It's interesting that they would even bother with this setting. Any games with dynamic resolution would be maxed out on PS5 already. So you would have to assume this will force upscale 1080p games to 4K, but even then, why bother? Most of the best selling PS4 games have already been patched for PS5 or re-released on PS5 and I think most would agree the bigger problem on PS4 is the framerates.

I think what is more likely and maybe more promising is that this is just an example of Sony building their forever platform better than they did with the PS5. Microsoft's BC worked a lot better with games getting uncapped framerates to 120 fps for example.

I'm guessing they are really advertising this because it's a bit of a nothing burger in terms of delivery and obviously YMMV, not to mention their focus isn't on PS4. But if this is a sign of things to come for PS6, I think it is a welcome one.

Until they lost their audience and stopped making games.
Microsoft's BC strategy is the number one factor to why their console died.
There's nothing wrong with BC by itself. The problem is neglecting current gen releases and relying on BC.

Services, features, BC, remasters, etc. All those things are meant to complement new games and IPs, not to serve as a clutch to lean on when you're coming up short.

There could be PS4 games that get a PS5 Pro patch and for those that don't, that's probably what that option is for. Possibly brute forcing PS4 games that don't have any PS5 Pro patches like a Bloodborne and many others. Other than that, I have no idea what this option is going to do. Hopefully Sony explains it once the PS5 Pro is out or perhaps during reviews/unboxings which I believe takes place this Monday.

BC is something that doesn’t help to sell consoles..: it is nice to have but not a gamer shift feature.

The amount of people that play old games are really low.

Indeed. Microsoft tried to relive the 360 glory by offering their games but failed to give a compelling reason to upgrade. Similar can be seen with Sony customers still sat on the ps4

Had to unhide your comments to see this.

You've always been a shit poster, but this is easily one of the most laughable things you've ever said.. .
How does it feel to be completely wrong? I've never experienced it before, tell me what it's like.

Sounds like a good feature so far tbh! (y)

Can't wait to try this out.

I'm planning on playing gravity rush soon, and it doesn't look so hot so will be interesting how much this can improve it. Not expecting anything magical.
