I'd suggest you to ignore the PS5 Pro rumors and don't get hyped with it until gets oficially announced, because like the Swtich Pro ones may only lead to dissapointmen in case it never gets announced.

Why wouldn't Sony release a PS5 Pro? They'll sell more PS5s and make more money, the PS4 Pro did not in any way disrupt the success of the next console.

How is it that a PS5 Pro isn't viable but some imaginary (most likely impossible) portable PS5 is that would also require patching every single game released so far. It's like you are not even trying.

PS5 Pro will NOT enhance PS5 sales. The PS5 is doing that just fine.

What Sony needs is a handheld to get back some marketshare in Japan and stop giving Nintendo a free run in that market.

Why is it impossible when we have seen the best looking console game this gen running just fine on a 1.8tf PS4.

The Asus Rog for example is 8tf in power. More than enough for Ps5 ports.

We have had the PSP and PS Vita which were scaled down PS2 and PS3 doing that just fine in the past.

Sony failed with their handheld. Nintendo failed with traditional living room consoles.
Both are focused on their strength. Sony isn't giving Nintendo a free market share nor Nintendo is giving Sony a free market share. The two don't directly compete with each other, but they offer quality alternatives to consumers and help grow the industry.

Sony didn’t fail in handhelds. The PSP sold 85 million and the PS Vita wasn’t given a chance yet still sold 10-15 million units.

Their expectations were simply too high.

In todays market a premium handheld selling what Vita sold would be considered a success.

The Steamdeck has sold a couple of million yet people can’t stop the praise.

How many units did the PS4 pro sell? More than the 10-15 million Vitas?

I highly doubt the PS5 pro would sell as much as the failed Vita.

There’s space in the market for a Sony handheld.

Of course it will. Plenty of enthusiasts would go for one.

Portable PS5? You better hope for a portable Series S at best. Sony is not about to go around patching every game to work on hardware that is much weaker than the PS5.

Did the PS4 Pro sell more than the failed Vita?

10-15 million units.

Considering the PS4 sold 117 million that would mean the PS4 pro would need to make up atleast 10-15% of total Ps4 sales to beat the Vita.

I highly doubt that was the case.

They didn't put huge investment on the pro. It serves for convenience and retaining customer base that probably spend the most in Playstation content and subscriptions.
A handheld is huge investment. Sony will need to dedicate resources and alot of their studios to make exclusive content for it. They cannot afford to sell a console without games. They are not Microsoft

More than something that won't exist? Sure.

I'm here hoping for a PS4 Portable some day and there you are confident in a PS5 Portable. I just can't see it happening at all.

Both existed.

Anything is possible. I just see more potential in a premium handheld over a Pro version of the PS5.

Just my 2 cents.

Unfortunately production costs for games have grown to a point where even companies the size of Sony can't justify splitting up their development pipeline for two wholly different systems. Nintendo came to a similar conclusion although it's arguable they could have continued the handheld/console strategy if they were willing to go with lower profit margins.

Sony failed with their handheld. Nintendo failed with traditional living room consoles.

Eh, IDK. For some reason a lot of people hold onto the notion that PlayStation "needs" Xbox to stick around in order to offer honest competition and fairness to customers, but why do we never see these same reasons pop up for Nintendo? Wouldn't an actual portable competitor for Nintendo, keep Nintendo more "honest" and make them more competitive in return?

Yet the same talking points never come up, despite the reasonings being as equally valid. Personally I'm of the opinion that PlayStation "needs" Xbox around just as much as Nintendo "needs" a portable competitor around, aka they don't actually need any. Is it nice to have more options on the market though? Of course. But I think those options have to justify themselves through their own merit instead of just acting as a stand-in competitor for the other system.

its mainly and best for lighting. simulating how it works. casting light rays and tracing where they bounce is the best way to give a game realistic dynamic global illumination, shadows, etc. RTGI is cool tech

That's cool and all, but is it really worth cutting the fps in half?

Here is how I see it, a "PRO" console allows Sony to sell units at a higher price than they normally would (either the make a cheaper "slim PS5" and they make the "PRO PS5" at the price of the OG or even a bit higher for those who want the latest and greatest PS system.

That allows them to either make a stealth price hike or lowering it while not completely loosing the release price of the PS5 generation.

Either way, those who feel like having more performance for their console can have it.

Imagine all those unlocked games suddenly locking at a real 120fps on your TV!

How big a PS5 pro is going to be? The PS5 is already hideous.
No need for one. I for once believe that not even the ps4 was pushed to its absolute limits. I think it's great when in the last year of it's lifecycle devs make tbe old machines beg for mercy like they did in 2013 with gears judgement, GTA V and last of us among others.

Other than cyberpunk 2077 no other 8th gen did that. Dynamic 720p 30 fps with drops on PS4. Imagine the visuals they could have pushed. If it looks bad to you then get it on the pro or PS5.

This will be even more pointless than PS4 pro. And it least you could market pro with 4K televisions.

Better ray tracings effects? You mean the graphics that hardly anyone can tell the difference? lol ok.

Still hoping this is scrapped. It’s really not needed.

Not sure what the issue is. Nobody is going to be forced to buy this, Sony is offering a new SKU for people that want it. And like it or not, further down the line it might be the only way to play a lot of games at 60 fps on console.

Yeah nobody has to buy it but development resources still has to be put into it instead of just focusing on the PS5.

You know.....the console that just fixed its supply problems and is about to get an abundance of exclusive games built for it.

I don't recall PS4 Pro having any significant adverse impact. I'm confident Sony will make it as easy as possible for devs, they've done a great job so far.
