While i dislike it, it's always been like this even with Nintendo. America is the biggest market.
I live in Australia we almost receive nothing, most special editions are never made available here and we often get games later for no real reason

Because Sony is a Japanese company? Every single subsidiary is run by Japan.
It is something like this:
Pictures: fully US
Games: EU>US>JP(Jim Ryan has been running EU division since the start, Andrew House also comes from EU division since they are the most successful branch)
Music: JP>US>UK(US NA record holders, JP is Western animation distribution, mobile gaming and Asian record labels, UK also run European record labels)
Electronics, Imagery, Semicounductor: fully JP
Every single subsidiary is ultimately run by Sony Japan. Doesn't matter how many of them exist.
Owned and ran are two different things.
Playstation is american now. This isn't the same PS as in the 90s and 00s.
