I don't think there is a future for that studio.

They were almost a first-party Sony studio working on God Of War Chains of Olympus, Ghost of Sparta and Daxter but The Order 1886 killed their relationship with Sony. Sad.

The Order was one of the worst $7 I ever payed in a game.
Not because it was not good, or polished, or have potential...

It was due it being just a DEMO.

When the story started it ended.
When the monsters bosses started it ended.
When you get the feeling of the controls it ended.

It was really a big disapointment because you could see there is potential for something great but was lose by bad game design decisions.

Said that it is not good when Studios do mass lay offs... there ae a lot of talented guys and girls that are affected by these actions.
RAD is part of Meta that just is cutting it own VR devs.

I actually finished The Order 1886 last week because I wanted to make space on my HD. I didn't have an issue with the lenght but it's true the ending is very abrupt. Like I'm not even sure what the game was about? Werewolves, vampires, Jack the Ripper and all the characters.

Very weird project, I don't know how they got the idea for all that mess.

The Order 1886 is still to this day one of the only games that look like pre rendered CGI to me. They would've made a wonderful addition to Sony 1st party. Sadly the internet hate machine for this game was on Forespoken tier level. The Order and Driveclub were two casualties of the early PS4 era, and still two of the best looking games ever made.

100% agree. The hate machine was out to target Sony's single player games, because they can't be milked like online and social games can.

I thoroughly enjoyed The Order and thought the story was great. Werewolves are underused in media.

RAD deserve another chance and I hope Sony can house some of those who are laid off.

Facebook sucks what a waste of a talented developed, would love to see them taking over for a Sony IP like Uncharted, Jak and Daxter or God of War, their PSP games were great and The Order was extremely impressive despite deeply flawed.

This was obviously a very talented studio and technically competent.

I'm sure they could easily have joined Sony but got too much of an ego

Same story as ThatGameCompany
It's likely the other way around, they never had an option, they were screwed by Sony. A game like The Order releasing in 2015 coming from a studio that developed for the PSP is crazy good.

The Order was just rushed out of the door and unfinished but pretty much all individual elements were good from. They didn't have the prestige of some Sony other studios to get their game delayed and it was rushed out of the door only 5 years after their last game, plenty of other Sony studios got way more time.

From what I see the devs still look fondly on the game they developed with Sony and I haven't seen them talking shit on the PS5 in fact I their CTO was one of the devs praising the PS5 before release.

Their experience working with VR is also something valuable to Sony since they have to support PSVR2.

Facebook bleeding billions with their PC VR push. Axes were sure to follow. They however still have some cash for FUD against Sony's PSVR2 laying around. Can't float? Bring the whole ship down with you.

They also made Daxter, which was a pretty good spin-off. I wish the Order 1886 was better so Sony would have bought them, they were a really talented studio.

A shame Meta snapped them up

Ok Sony, go correct a mistake in the timeline.
Go build a skunkworks RAD team for PSVR2, or hire them-into Mm.

Leadership should set up another studio and just bail at this point, Meta ain't interested in games.
When the leadership sold the studio very likely signed that they must stay there for a certain amount of years.

But what I don't understand is why Meta doesn't sell the studio instead of firing most of the people. By doing it in that way they would earn money with the move instead of losing money paying all the compensations.

I mean, Sony can hire the fired people and create a studio named Ready at Sunset for them. It would be basically the same but without paying Meta for them.

Hopefully it was a 3 years clause.

As for them not selling it, maybe it's just like in the NFL where teams are not willing to pay much for a guy that is going to get cut anyway.

In my mind these Oculus studio acquisitions happened a long time ago but it seem like they mostly happened after 2020.

A lot of these studios that jump at acquisitions I’m pretty sure are now reverting it. If only they hadn’t fcked up the order they could have been a ps studio by now.
