There's more designers in the team and it's a senior position, not the lead position.
Likely trying to speed up development by having "more hands on deck".

If it just ended pre-production, and depending on the scale of the game, early PS6 is definitely likely. It could be a cross-gen PS5/PS6 release but I can't see it releasing any sooner than 2028.

returnal only took 1.5 years to come out after coming out of preproduction. They were working on a battle royale game until 2019 and returnal came out of preproduction at the beginning of 2020, released mid 2021.
Well, I didn't expect to work in a visual novel next. Makes sense to work in an action AAA game after Returnal. Not sure if they'll go for Returnal 2, I can see them trying to do another new IP and leave a Returnal sequel for later.
They can always hire at any point, as could be the case for a replacement of someone who left or was fired.

I think it's a new IP but if it's a Returnal 2 it would be good too.
This new game will probably be bigger than Returnal was. But if that game did only take ~ 18 months after pre-production, and this new game might likely be more ambitious, then maybe late 2026/H1 2027.
Then knowing SIE they'd tie an expansion update for the PS6's launch.
Remember that there was an acqusition. It takes time to move to the new office and all that.
