Part of it is to feel like the new is making "progress" over the old, simply by virtue of being newer. A bit of an entitled perspective, but it's not limited to just games. Movies, TV, music, hell society in general it happens regularly.

Yeah people seem to flock to whatever is new at the very moment and disregard the old thing.

I absolutely have no hype for Persona.

Since P3 they make the game a teen-stylishing-dating sim with some storiea, P4 is interesting because of the murder mystery but that is it about it.

Worse they milked their casts with garbage spinoff nobody cares.

Persona is just a poor man SMT anyway, no turn system, can't control party skills either.
And the calendar and level up social links bullshit take so much time.
And what is the fucking point of collecting all persona and complete full compedium if you get to use them only in 1 party turn?

SMT on the other hand, day one babe.

They need to put SMTV on the PS5/PC for 60FPS.

Yeah this is pretty much why I stopped playing p4. The storys interesting but I disliked the overall gameplay of going to school and all that. I thought It was a creative idea but I just want to go dungeon crawl a lot more. Not to say the high school setting is so overdone in anime.

So the next best thing is to fill the void with new exclusives suiting that niche you can prop up 100% since they'd be 1P titles. And it's not like Sony don't have JRPG IP they can leverage for that: Legend of Dragoon, Wild Arms, Dark Cloud, Okage etc.
I'm playing Eternights now, its a PS5 console exclusive that takes a lot of inspiration from Persona. It's rough around the edges cuz its an indie game but its still pretty good.

Yeah but is it 1P, or do Sony own the IP? Because if not, it could just as easily end up on other platforms

Which, I don't want folks to misconstrue me: there's nothing inherently wrong with multiplatform titles. Ideally all games would be multiplatform. But in reality, it just seem certain people have a "problem" with exclusives when it involves PlayStation. "3P exclusives are anti-consumer", "1P games (non-Gaas) should be Day 1 on PC!", you know the sorts.

It's like they just ignore all the 3P exclusives Xbox has and has had over the years, and ignore that Nintendo not porting their games to PC actually helps create value for their consoles. Or, they ignore that Sony have more in common with Nintendo than they do Microsoft, in terms of not just brand perception in gaming, but entertainment, and not having the deep channels of Big Tech infrastructure a company like Microsoft enjoys (and corporate values & strategies thereof).

All logic gets thrown out the window with those types of people who can't seem to weigh what's good for them against what's good for the platform's prosperity, and trying to find a balance in both.

Persona series for weebs is like what the soul series is for soul fans - catnip. So much buzz from a relatively small base. Except the Soul series exploded with Elden Ring, and on a path towards fast-food.
