Xbox may be pulling one of its first party games, Quantum Break from game pass. Indicating game pass, may not be a complete catalogue of first party games into the future as has always been its hallmark…..

Hard to believe but after the expenisve ABK stuff and seeing them dropping the $1 deal maybe Satya Nutella told them that it's time to start monetizing the stuff better so it would be a good idea to start keeping games away from GP to earn some exra bucks with game sales.

They'll remove so they can announce it's inclusion again a month later on one of their lists.

Moving on from day one games is what I think they would try instead of something like this.

Lots of speculation about licensing issues. Generally licensing involves a limited time on some kind of trademark, not quite sure what it would be here. The game is published by Microsoft and all content should be theirs despite being built by an external studio.

Further citations needed.

Unlikely. Most probably a licensing issue.
Like others said probably licensing issues, same reason they remove forza games
Kind of liked this one. Will probably be back once the licences are renewed.
I don't think that's the reason. The game is so old and there was a tv show with Lance Riddick. Probably a license issue.

What licensing issues? It's a Microsoft published game that uses a Microsoft owned brand. MS is free to do whatever they want with it. And it's a MS service, so the only reason of removing it from GP would be that they want to sell it separatedly.

A game like Forza is different, because in case of car games they had time limited licenses to use car brands. In that case the publisher has to pay to renew it once it expires or to stop selling the game in every single store, so when the game stops selling enough they don't renew and remove it from the stores. As happened with other games like Out Run 2.

If that would be the case of Quantum Break, they wouldn't only remove it from GP: they'd remove it from the game stores too. But doesn't seem to be the case. So if they really remove it from GP and not from the stores, won't be a licensing issue, will be because MS wants to do so.

No issues perceived....simple pull of a 1st party. Just the beginning?

Yep, maybe it's the first step to see how people reacts. If they do so, they'll study how it affects GP and game sales metrics and if there isn't a giant controversy. If looks good enough for them, they'd continue doing it with more titles.

The game contains a lot of live action scenes. Maybe some of that is causing issues? Lance Riddick is also an actor on the show portion of the game so maybe his death created some licensing issues?

Nah, with actors they sign forever. It could be with music tracks in case they licensed some super popular music track. In these cases they are often also licensed for a certain number of years instead of getting a permanent license (because it's cheaper).

Very strange, I assume it's something to do with the licensing on the live action parts of the game. Wild assumption but maybe MS only secured the game rights in perpetuity and the streaming rights for the show for 7 years.

And as was blindingly obvious to all, other than those desperate for a clickbait thread title, it's a temporary licensing issue.

Not the pending demise of the best deal in gaming ;)
